Owned by Doerfer, Wright designs and builds turn-key assembly and test
automation systems for commercial, medical, fibers, process, nuclear and
regulatory customers.
Project Manager - Project Engineer- Nuclear & Commercial Projects
Organize, direct, design, and deliver high quality on time within scope
profitable custom automation projects, including acquiring team members /
resources as required to deliver projects per the original plan. Identify,
communicate and resolve project issues through risk evaluation, potential
failure mode analysis and work breakdown structure. Develop detailed
project schedule to prioritize design, build and debug activities to
maintain schedule. Primary contact for customer communication.
Nuclear Projects require additional Project Management tasks including
review and approval of seismic calculations, seismic software (Ansys)
verification and validation (V&V) and hardware configuration management
plans. Creation of project specific Inspection and Test plans, welding
procedures and non-destructive examinations, commercial grade dedication
plans with CGD test reports. Monthly earned value (EV) and bi-yearly eSRS
regulatory reporting.
Key Accomplishments
. Bechtel Joggle Plug design change salvaged (43) joggle plugs savings
of $640K.
. Researched and authored white paper for the acceptability and use of
PEEK insulating material as a radiation resistance nuclear cable
insulator. The Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) at the Richland WA
nuclear waste facility as well as the local Department of Energy AHJ
both approved the White Paper allowing use of PEEK insulated wire.
. Three Short term Special Assignments detailed below.
. Assisted Erico in redesigning complete product package to design for
manufacturability, process control enhancements and packaging
simultaneously reducing risk to shareholders for $1.5M.
. Caterpillar Valve Assembly reconfiguration and a 900 component part
matrix spreadsheet resulted in a savings of $625K.
Wright Special Assignments:
Project Engineer - Caterpillar MOD 3 Fuel Injector System (Pontiac Plant)
Advanced Automation (AA) a sister Doerfer Company designed and built the
MOD 3 Fuel Injector System. AA was not able to achieve a successful
machine acceptance and run-off after installation over an 18 month period.
With 3 days to evaluate, design changes and process improvements resulted
in a successful runoff and acceptance within 6-weeks. Caterpillar wrote a
letter of recommendation after the runoff.
Document Control Supervisor - Nuclear Records
Wright was placed on a regulatory stop work due to deficiencies within the
QA program.
As part of this special assignment, I organized the entire Document Control
system to meet ASME NQA-1. Simultaneously organized current in-process
project documentable records and previous historical nuclear records
spanning a ten year period. Presented company-wide training on the DC
system and revised QA procedures. Resulted effort passed ASME NQA-1 audit
and removal from stop work status.
Quality Engineer - Regulatory
After successful reorganization of the Document Control system, assisted
the Quality department as a Quality Engineer. The Quality Engineer
assignment was to review, properly revise as necessary and approve
manufacturing quality records. Assisted the Nuclear Business Unit Manager
and the Quality Assurance Manager in composing, editing and producing NQA-1
quality system Procedures, Operating Instructions and Forms.
Hansford Manufacturing 5/2000 -
5/2002
Purchased by Detroit Tool, Hansford designed and built turn-key assembly
and test automation systems for commercial, medical, and automotive
customers.
Applications Engineer & Project Manager -Dual Role
Project Manager:
Organize, direct, design, and deliver high quality on time within scope
profitable custom automation projects, including acquiring team members /
resources as required to deliver projects per the original plan.
Applications Engineer:
Prepared formal detailed quotations from customer specifications including
a system layout showing station concept and tooling. System pricing
spreadsheets highlighting major purchased components as well as estimated
hours per discipline based on any historical database and/or conception.
Solicited quotes for major purchased components such as Feeder Bowls,
Conveyors, Robots, and Vision Systems.
Key Accomplishments
. Able to quote and manage HP projects from inception the installation.
. Instrumental in winning second BD assembly and test system
McKenzie Automation Systems, Inc. 11/1998
- 5/2000
McKenzie Automation was formed after owner Joe McKenzie purchased the
business unit from Gillette Machine, where he served as VP. McKenzie built
small turn-key assembly and test systems for the automotive and commercial
markets.
Program Manager / Engineering Manager
Initially hired as the Manager of Project Managers. After six months, took
on additional responsibility of Engineering Manager. Directed and assigned
engineers and project managers to projects based on their experience,
project complexity and workload. Managed and lead design reviews prior to
presentation to the customer for approval. Responsibilities also included
preparation of details quotations from customer request for quotes (RFQ)
for complete turnkey systems ranging from $500K to $2 Million Dollars.
Created standardized project management and engineering process flow charts
networked to operating procedures and forms and checklists.
Hansford Manufacturing 6/1995-
11/1998
Hansford designed and built turn-key assembly and test automation systems
for commercial, medical, and automotive customers. DT Industries purchases
Hansford in1997.
Project Manager
Organize, direct, design, and deliver high quality on time within scope
profitable custom automation projects, including acquiring team members /
resources as required to deliver projects per the original plan.
Key Accomplishments
. Received Project Manager Performance Commendation letter from Ford
Sandusky after restoring client relation confidence after delivery of
Carbon Canister System.
. Carbon canister first production run met 96% OEE, week one after
install.
. Build complete Needle Bearing System design through install through
subcontracting.
. Played a major role in machine design and process development for the
BD diagnostic test panel dispensing, assembly and test system.
Gillette Machine & Tool Inc. 7/1993-6/1995
Gillette Machine and Tool was a machine shop that started building small
automation equipment after hiring Joe McKenzie as VP. Joe McKenzie was a
Senior Controls engineer at Hansford manufacturing.
