Professional Experience

2012/October-Present. Analytical Branch Manager- Anniston Chemical

Disposal Facility- Subcontractor Battelle. Manage staff's technical

performance, training, and development. Ensure operations are achieved in

accordance with safety, environmental, quality, and security regulations in

support of hazardous waste incineration facility. Manage non-staff

resources including equipment, supply-chain, and procedures. Establish

performance goals and develop skills. Review budget and plan department

staffing. Conduct interviews, employee reviews, and disciplinary actions.

Serve as Battelle Safety Officer and manage chemical hygiene program.

Conduct environmental, safety, and quality inspections. Implement process

improvements based on trend analysis. Interface with regulatory agencies,

department managers, and work force. Provide reviews and approvals to

operating procedures and to reports before submission to regulators.

Ensure employees and contractors receive training and adhere to

environmental and safety regulations.

2011/April- 2012/October. Analytical Specialist (Principle Research

Scientist)- Anniston Chemical Disposal Facility- Subcontractor Battelle.

Manage exempt and non-exempt employees of 5 rotating shifts. Develop

training and coordinate activities of emergency preparedness, safe handling

and analysis of hazardous materials, personal protective equipment, lock-

out/tag-out, waste disposal and container management, preventative and

corrective maintenance, new hire and refresher training, and scheduling.

Write and provide updates to SOPs/LOPs. Provide analytical support and

waste classification in the destruction of chemical warfare agents. Ensure

operations are performed in accordance with permit regulations. Validate

data, coordinate waste analysis with contracted laboratories, and ensure

quality review of reports and plans submitted to regulatory organizations.

Prepare and perform Job Safety Analysis. Conduct timely performance

reviews, succession planning, and participate in new-hire interviews.

Coordinate activities with Management Team. Chemical Hygiene Officer and

function as Branch Manager during absence. Coordinate analytical site

closure activities.

2004/October-2011/April. Analytical Team Lead- Anniston Chemical

Disposal Facility-Subcontractor Battelle. Supervise laboratory operations

of safety, employee management, data review, procedural compliance, audits,

diversity awareness, and ethics training. Serve as Emergency Laboratory

Coordinator. Conduct emergency equipment inspections and certifications.

Perform weekly safety, environmental, and quality inspections. Coordinate

activities with operations. Provide feedback on objectives and manage

implementation of changes. Provide technical expertise of sample analysis

and data interpretation, troubleshooting of instrumentation, container

management, emergency response, chemical hygiene, and waste disposal.

Perform proficiency testing and conduct precision and accuracy studies.

2004/Febuary-2004/October. GC Operator/Shift Chemist- Anniston

Chemical Disposal Facility-Subcontractor Battelle. Technical knowledge and

ability to operate and repair 5890/6890/5973/5975 GC-FPD/FID/MSD CI and EI

instrumentation, analysis of air monitoring samples, nerve and blister

agent extractions, traditional wet chemistry methods to include titrations,

pH, specific gravity, percent free chloride, total suspended solids,

percent NaOH, and particulate analysis. Comply with regulatory

requirements and exercise analysis in accordance with operating procedures.

2000/May-2004/February. Safety Director and Approvals Chemist- Giant

Resource and Recovery of Attalla. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations

and RCRA permit including: PSM, WAP, TSCA, CAA, and CERCLA. Provide

employee training and industrial hygiene monitoring. Conduct respirator

fit testing, coordinate random employee drug screening, file worker's

compensation claims, and evaluate work areas for appropriate personal

protective equipment selection. Review MSDS of hazardous materials for

health, safety, compatibility, and review data for accuracy and reporting.

Designate waste storage and disposal methods. Enforce waste reduction

policies and reclamation of waste processes. Supervise environmental,

safety, and laboratory operations including monitoring of waste water run-

off, PCB analysis, and unknown organics by use of GC-ECD/FID, quality

control tests for percent water, halogens, ash, pH, specific gravity, BTUs,

and compatibility of waste for fuel blending (Reclamation of Hazardous

Waste to Energy). Perform contingency exercises, emergency planning,

accident investigations, root cause analysis, reporting, and maintain

documentation. Address concerns associated with potential new customers

and sales representatives/brokers.
