WORK EXPERIENCE
Teaching Assistant- (Summer 2011, Los Angeles, CA) - Assisted elementary students with mathematics and
English at a tutoring program called Educating Young Minds (EYM). Held responsible for supervising and
administering the well-being of elementary school students. Collaborated with my colleagues to construct
effective teaching methods for the betterment of the children academically.
Food Service- (2009-2010, Syracuse, NY) – Worked in the dining halls at Syracuse University. Helped with
cleaning and served food to students.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Habitat For Humanity (2013)- Spent Spring Break 2013 in Long Beach, Long Island, New York to help
families recover from the devastation left by Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. Primarily worked with
demolition and cleaning.
Study Abroad (2012) - Spent 6 months abroad in South America to learn about the culture of the people in Spanish
speaking countries like Ecuador and Chile and to practice my ability to speak Spanish. Lived in the homes of
Ecuadorean and Chilean families to help mend the experience by seeing directly the way of life of South Americans.
Varsity Basketball Player (2006-2009) Played a great role in leading the team to the playoffs every year during
my tenure on the team. Devoted 3 hours of practice every weekday after school to becoming a better basketball
player and understanding our schemes.
Educating Young Minds (EYM Student 2003 -2009, Los Angeles, CA) - Attended a tutoring program every
day after high school and middle school. Received top-notch support and guidance from extraordinary teachers
and tutors with SAT prep, daily homework assignments, and additional support materials to better expand my
knowledge in life and in academics.
Volunteered at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (Summer 2008) – Assisted at the Front Office. Escorted
visitors of the hospital to their desired locations.
Additional Skills, Awards, and Experience
• Awarded a $10,000 EYM Scholarship for my commitment to the EYM program (5+ years).
• Spent 1 month in Ethiopia to visit my grandparents and cousins. Experienced the unpleasant living conditions first hand that my family
members experienced. Motivated to make changes in the future.
• Completed a Money and Banking course and a Public Economics course in Spring 2013
• Participated in two Los Angeles Marathons, numerous 5k and 10k events for charitable causes.
