A. 02/2010 - 2/2013 Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory Technician II,
at Breathitt veterinary center (BVC), Murray state university,
Hopkinsville, KY.
The BVC is fully accredited for all animal species by the
American association of veterinary laboratory diagnosticians
(AAVLD). The scientific disciplines of Pathology, Microbiology,
Molecular Diagnostics, Toxicology, Serology, and Virology are
provided in the facility to provide rapid, accurate diagnostic
data.
Responsibilities:
. Different extraction methods include spin column method by using
Qiagen extraction, Tetra core, Rneasy mini kits, Heat block and
Magnetic bead methods (Ambion).
. Running PCR by using different types of Thermo cyclers
(Conventional & Real time & High Through put), by using
different types of PCR's include single, multiplex, nested, qRT
pcr's,, gel electrophoresis,
. Running PCR's for detection of E.coli toxins and adhesion
factors, Clostridium toxin profiling Salmonella, abortion cases
for Listeria, Leptospira, Neospora, and Toxoplasma, Trichmonas,
chronic wasting Disease (MAP) Johne's testing, Step. equi, equine
herpes virus 1& 4 PCR's, bovine viral diarrheal virus PCR, west
nile virus, bulk tank milk testing for Mycoplasma and Mycoplasma
panels for bovine, avian, and pigs.

Thermocyler for avian influenza virus surveillance, classical
swine fever surveillance, foot and mouth disease surveillance,
avian paramyxo and New castle disease surveillance PCR'S

molecular Imaging software bye 212PRO gel logic imager.

Antibody testing(IFA), Agglutination and Micro agglutination,

Dark field fluorescent microscopes.
. Perform mastitis cultures, bulk tank milk testing, and a variety
of special cultures including Johne's disease
. Bacterial and fungal Isolation and Identification by using
biochemical test, Id panels, Bio logs.
. Teach AHT students of MSU about lab and show clinical Molecular
and Microbiological techniques.
. Teach High school students/visitors about lab and clinical
methods.

lovastatin production from the specific fungal cultures, by
using Shake Flask Fermenter, UV Spectrophotometer to read
