Retail Advertising Sales, 0 5/2004 to 0 5/2013

The Olympian Newspaper – 111 Bethel St NE, Olympia, WA

Retail Territory Representative for South Thurston and Lewis Counties.

Responsible for maintaining and growing current advertiser base across all our multi-media offerings:

Worked closely with clients to identify their needs and challenges and provide solutions-oriented

campaign themes.

Built relationships with customers and the community to promote long term business growth.

Increased sales volume by adding 20 accounts in the Lewis County territory over the course of one month.

I chose as my goal to add one new account per day and I hit it, a number that has not been matched yet.

Contacted new and existing customers to discuss how their needs could be met through specific products

and services by conducting needs assessments.

Identified prospective customers by using business directories and following leads from existing clients

plus networking, networking and more networking.

Prioritized tasks and projects to meet tight deadlines.

Northwest Senior Life – 15033 SE McLoughlin Blvd, Milwaukie, O R

Publisher of Northwest Senior Live, a 40,000 circulation monthly directed to the senior market.

Supervised 3 person ad staff and sold advertising throughout the senior market.

Maintained communications and relationships with all senior housing facilities and their corporate staff.

Began bi weekly tours by bus to various senior housing facilities with prospective future residents. It

was a great partnership and well received. The partnership allowed us to receive referral income over and

above the print and online dollars we would generate.

Did twice yearly Senior Housing focus sections.

Constantly prospected for new accounts.

Duties include retail advertising sales and writing monthly column.

Responsible for budgets, magazine design and advertising sales.

Maintained strong community presence.

Cultivated and managed relationships with key clients, vendors and community partners.

Collaborated with designers and the editorial team on creating new look for the publications.

Ad Director, 1 0/1997 to 0 3/1999

Our Town Magazine – Downtown Portland, O R

Started as a Retail Advertising Representative then moved up to Ad Director.

Our Town Magazine was a weekly tab of approximately 40,000 circulation that focused on arts, fashion

and entertainment.

Daily sales calls to existing accounts, but primary focus was on cold calling and building new business.

Paper purchased in 1999 by Pamplin Communications at which point I was promoted to Publisher of

Lifestyles Northwest and East County News.

Team Leader, 0 3/1995 to 1 0/1997

Norvanco, Inc. – Auburn, WA

customer.

Advertising pieces designed for the customer to redeem for snack items or to see upcoming movie

promotions.

Ad Director, 0 8/1971 to 0 4/1984

The Hillsboro Argus Newspaper – Hillsboro, O R

Retail ad sales for The Hillsboro Argus, a 12,000 twice-weekly newspaper.

Give new territory of Forest Grove with no accounts in it and developed it into a solid base of revenue for

the paper.

Total cold calling and up against a weekly paper that already existed in the city of Forest Grove.

Became adept at using spec ads and very creative layouts to get my foot in the door.

I also would convince a business to let me come work for them (unpaid of course) on a Saturday so that I

could learn more about them. It really helped me to sell additional advertising and be a true partner to their

business. Did such jobs as fashion, lumber sales, electrical and video stores. A great learning experience

for me and showed businesses that I was willing to go the extra mile.
