Co-ordinator & Relief Superintendent

I've spent 32 years employed by the Fort Frances, Ontario Pulp and

Paper Mill. I advanced over the last 23 years within the Maintenance

Department to the position of Senior Maintenance Co-ordinator. I joined

the Maintenance Dept. in 1986 as a Maintenance & Operations Co-ordinator

and Relief Maintenance Supervisor reporting to the Maintenance and

Engineering Services Supt. My key areas of responsibility were the 3 Paper

Machines, Finishing & Shipping Dept., Maintenance Shops, Maintenance &

Engineering Offices, Stores Buildings and the Main Office. Over the period

of the next 6 or 7 years I learned the equipment, advanced my personal

skills and the company policies and politics and advance to the title of

Senior Maintenance Co-ordinator for day-to-day operations and all shut down

repairs and projects.

Primary Duties:

o Scheduling and Supervision of Multi trades for daily, weekly and major

shut down repairs. Our mill work work force consisted of 186 multi

skilled tradesmen

o Relief Maintenance Supervisor for other areas as well as relief for

Maintenance Superintendent as required

o I was a key player in the area of Safety, ensuring all Provincial and

Company policies where adhered to.

o Chair monthly crew Safety Meetings

o Ensure all lock out and confined space systems where current and

easily accessable

o Work in a CMMS work order system management environment on a daily

basis using JDE One World

o Validate, create, scope, and control the work order system in JDE One

World Software environment. This is both daily, preventative and

capital maintenance work orders.

o Supervisor of Mechanical Contractors for tasks in my area of

responsibility

o Co-ordinate all offsite repairs to major Paper Machine equipment

o Maintenance Supervisor & Superintendent relief as required

o Responsible for identifying and requisitioning outside specialized

support, i.e.: Engineers, Erectors, Optical Alignment teams and Non-

Destructive Technicians as required.

o Budget control and tracking in my area. Chair bi-monthly and annual

budget meetings for my area. My maintenance budget for my area of

responsibility was just over 3.5 million dollars in the good times!

o Stores/inventory levels and updates for my area, ensure all redundant

inventory is removed for retired equipment. Ensure appropriate

inventory was set up for new equipment in my area.

o Ensure all maintenance records and history gathering and entry are

current

o Direct acquisition of major maintenance materials as required

o Fill the role of Lead Maintenance Co-ordinator for for major shut

downs (turnarounds) for total mill outages and special Capital

Projects.

EDUCATION AND RELEVANT TRAINING:

> Ontario Secondary School Graduate

> I have completed approx. 50 % of my Inter-provincial ticket for

Construction & Maintenance Electrician prior to being asked to jump over

to the salaried Maintenance Co-ordiator's position

> First Line Supervisor training at Boise Cascade Corporate, in Boise,

Idaho

> Post graduate courses in Maintenance Planning & Scheduling (employer

sponsored).

> Presentation skills training

> Interpersonal management skills training

> Time management training

> Leadership for Process Improvement training

> Due Diligence Awareness training

> OH & S Act & Regulations for Industrial Establishments training

> Competent user of JDE One World & Elke CMMS software and comfortable in
