Volunteer Experience
. Operation Smile, Davao City, Philippines 2000-2002
A once a year free medical and surgical mission sponsored by
Operation Smile International based in the US and hosted by United
Church of Christ in the Philippines, Davao Central Church and
Brokenshire Memorial Hospital. The mission performs free cleft lip
and palate repair and other maxillofacial abnormalities. The host
church volunteer nurses and doctors screen the patients for surgery
days before the arrival of the medical-surgical team and when the
team arrives they review the patients' information and schedules
for surgery. The team usually stays for 2 - 3 weeks.

Conduct free medical services to depressed areas of the
community
and provide free livelihood seminars with resource speakers.
Indigent
families are provided health care and given free medicines.
They are
then followed up after a week or referred to appropriate

Free Blood glucose monitoring program done weekly for indigent
patients who cannot afford to buy their own glucometers. Patients
are also provided with educational materials for diet and
prevention of diabetic complications and free anti-diabetic
medicines.
