a. General

1. Monitor 24 hours written Nursing Report form Nursing Supervisor/Acting

Supervisor from units. Reports include anticipated clinical/management

problems i.c. staffing in deficit, redevelopment of staff, incidents

reports, transfers in/out, VIPs, critically ill patients, anticipated

work load, staff admission and remedial action taken.

2. Develops plans to implement nursing policies and practices in

consultation with the Medical Director.

3. Monitor activities to ensure compliance with nursing services policies

and philosophy and evaluate current practices.

4. Ensures the implementation of teaching programmes for patients and

relatives.

5. Reporting to Medical Director on possible effects of nursing policy

and the results of implemented programme.

6. Communicating with relatives and patients required.

7. Liaise and cooperate with medical staff, hospital administration and

other department in establishing a good rapport and effective

functioning system for the benefit of patients and staff.

8. Ensure the cost effective utilization of supplies and equipment used

in the management and delivery of care.

9. Actively assumes responsibility for special projects, prepares

reports, research papers, studies and statistics as requested by the

Medical Director or Managing Director. Participates in and may chair

committee as requested.

10. Participates in Quality Assurance, Infection Control and Fire safety

programmes.

changeover.

3. On-going review of practices and procedures and recommending

improvements.

4. Promotion of Health Education and direct involvements as

appropriate with patient and relatives.

5. Ensuring the Medical and Nursing plan of care is carried out,

clarifying any arrears of uncertainty and in any dispute regarding

clinical management, referring the matter to the appropriate

consultant.

c. Administration

1. Ensures annual leaves, shifts and duties are allocated to nursing

duties are allocated to nursing staff to ensure unit is adequately

staffed throughout the 24 hours.

2. Coordinates the monitor's activities of staff and all services to

patients.

3. Anticipates, identifies potential/actual problems, and resolution

of problems, recommending changes to policies as necessary.

4. Ensures effective communication within the unit/department between

nursing staff patient/significant others and allied health care

personnel; reports all unusual occurrences/problems/resolutions to

the Nursing Supervisors/Deputy Director of Nursing.

5. Ensures optimal staff safety, welfare and development;

participating in on-going counseling and in the formal appraisal

procedures; promotes good staff relationships.

6. Ensures the consistent / accurate preparation of nursing records.

7. Ensure that staff are able to use unit equipment and that

appropriate measure are taken to ensure proper maintained orders

unit supplies, including narcotics.

8. Maintains the control of storage and administration of drugs

including narcotics.

9. Assist with planning/implementing of charge.

10. Performs other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of

his/her knowledge skills and abilities as delegated/assigned.
