-Current Function-

Lead Histology Technician in small Pathology Department which performs routine

surgical pathology and non-gyn cytology preparations. Duties include, but are not

limited to: accessioning, grossing of certain tissues, processing, embedding, sectioning,

staining, and coverslipping. Additional duties are special stains, writing procedures,

managing the department, Quality Assurance and general CAP readiness.

-Relevant Skills and Experience-

Routine Histology- Have performed routine Histology procedures to include:

accessioning, assisting in the gross, some tissue grossing, embedding, microtomy,

routine H & E staining, special staining, coverslipping, labeling, mail-outs and

distribution of slides.

Morgue Duties- In the past have assisted with several medical and forensic post

mortems in a professional manner. Have also performed clean-up duties.

Special Histology- Have worked in a specialized Immunohistochemistry Laboratory

having to perform duties such as: Grossing, preparing and sectioning frozen tissue for

ER/PR ICA, EIA, and DNA studies, Have operated and prepared slides for IHC staining on

the Biotek and Code-On Immuno Stainers as well as stained manually. Have extensive

experience in capillary gap method. Have also performed MOHS procedure frozen

sections in hospital labs and in a Dermatology office in the past. Have worked in

Research & Development performing mainly immunohistochemistry and related special

studies. Additionally tested monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies to determine usage in

IHC. A few of the other functions include embedding and sectioning animal tissue

samples as well as human samples and cutting micro tissue array sections.

Cytology- Have prepared cytology specimens (cyto-spins, direct smears, cell blocks,

etc.) and am familiar with some cytology equipment (i.e. the Shandon and Tissue Tek

CytoSpin).

Volume- Have worked in extremely high volume hospital pathology labs as well as

smaller and independently run labs, and can adjust to many different working situations.
