Resume:

Dear Sir,

Regarding your help wanted add I found on Craig’s List, I would like to submit my qualifications.

I do not have a formal resume as yet as I am just beginning my career search. However, below you will find a brief summary of my experience.

I have been managing people for over 30 years. My first management position after graduating from the University of Georgia was with McDonald’s. I know…fast food, but I will tell you, they have an excellent management training program. I was with McDonald’s for about eight years managing several different stores in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

In 1980, I was hired by FW Dodge Corporation (a division of McGraw Hill) as a manager. Dodge Reports is the leading distributor for construction sales leads and information in the country targeting general contractors, subs, supplies, manufacturers, government agencies and others in the construction industry. This was my first experience within the construction industry and I have stayed ever since. I was the first person hired by Dodge from outside the company to be a manager. They had always promoted their managers from inside the company, but it did not always work out. They were looking for someone with management experience, I was an experiment. It worked out well and I stayed with Dodge for eight years. I was based in Atlanta and had 20 employees in several cities in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.

In 1988 I was recruited away from Dodge by their largest competitor, Construction Market Data (later bought out by Reed Construction Data). The owner of CMD hired me to move to Kansas City to open the CMD office there. I covered Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, North & South Dakota and Minnesota for construction information. Within two years, my office was the second largest branch in the company out of 12 locations, behind the Atlanta office. CMD went through rapid growth during my stay in KC. I was on the senior committee overseeing this national growth.

In 1997 I was transferred to Dallas to open the Texas market for CMD. We worked closely with the AGC chapter here, running their planroom and providing construction information to their members. Within two years I expanded the Dallas office to cover the entire state of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

In 2001 I left CMD to open my own consulting business. My clients were general contractors and architects. I provided a select group of clients with personalized sales & marketing for their businesses. Early 2005 one of my general contractor clients, Integrated Builders, wanted me to come with him as his full time Director of Business Development. I was in this position for two and a half years building his business.

In 2007 I left Integrated Builders and opened my own construction company. My first job was as a GC. I built a Buddhist Meditation Center in Farmersville. It was only about 14,000 SF, but it got me going. After that however, I started doing the wood framing for other general contractors. Since 2008, I have framed over 50 wood commercial structures; churches, office buildings, daycare centers, senior care facilities, hotels, motels, restaurants, condominiums and others.

I really like working for myself and all that it involves, but I would like to join an existing stable company and help it grow.

If you feel my qualifications meet your needs, please contact me.

Thank you,

Tom King
