o I dealt with study of non-linear observers for distillation

column.

The non linear observers are required to estimate the unmeasured

states from measured outputs. They are normally an integral part

of many nonlinear control systems like feedback linearization

approach for designing control systems. The study is mainly

based on the observer requirement of feedback linearizing

controller to control a distillation column.

In this work, six different nonlinear observers are designed for

distillation column control. They are

1) Extended kalman filter (ekf)

2) Extended luenberg observer (elo)

3) Thau observer

4) Extended linearization

5) Input - output linearization

6) Sliding observer.

Performances of all the observers are investigated against the

initialization error, parametric uncertainty and noisy

measurements.

DYNASTY for Caterpillar Client

Feb '08 - Dec '08

o Caterpillar works mainly in the area of development of large

truck and cranes. It used the modern modeling tools to simulate

the entire automobile processes including the electric line

design of the vehicle.

o The modeling and simulation of automobiles was done using

MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Targetlink, C and C++. Hence the

entire thermodynamic and mechanical design was done by us and

tested for validation before sending the results to the vendor.

The simulation tool was called DYNASTY and is used widely in US

colleges for training Engineers.

Integrated Gasification combined cycle (General Electric)

o In GE the work was mainly simulation of the steam turbine and

gas turbines for their IGCC plants. The simulation was again the

mechanical design and testing of the various parts including

verification of results before being sent to the vendor. The

entire thermodynamic processes were also modeled.

and C++.
