PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Research and Develop for Shanghai Nextrend Technology Co. 2010-
Present
. Technical support for optical coating design and deposition process,
and optical component testing.
. Complete design of miniature dual 1 2, 2 2 crossbar, and its cascaded
4 4 fiber optic switches. Lead a team working on prototype
manufacturing and process tuning. These products are the most compact
switches on the market. Now the design is patent pending.
. Design reflection type magneto-optic 1 2 switch and miniature 1 8
switch, preparing document for patent application.
. Working on design and prototype development of fiber coupled acousto-
optic nano-speed switches with low PDL, high contrast ratio and high
modulation frequency; the modulation frequency of On/Off switch is up
to 15MHz, and 5MHz of 1 2 switch, preparing documents for patent
application.
. Designed a structure for free-space fiber optic device packaging, the
preliminary experiment shows an ultra-low temperature dependent loss,
and finished documents for patent application. This is completely
compatible with current assembly procedure.
Gooch & Housego (Florida) LLC, Melbourne, FL
2006-2009
. Acousto-optical device design and new process development.
. Designed a fiber coupled acousto-optic Q-Switch.
. Modified AO design software, set up a Mach-Zehnder interferometer to
perform acoustic wave reflection test with digital signal processing
technologies.
Agiltron Inc., Woburn, MA
2004-2006
. Led a group to work on qualification evaluation of magneto-optical 1 8
switch for BAE Systems for F-22 and F-35 project, including set up an
automatic testing system for switch test, arrange production in order
to meet product delivery schedule, implemented all testing according
to BAE's requirements based on Mil-STD, and prepared all related
documentations. BAE Systems finally accepted Agiltron as a qualified
vendor for its F-22 and F-35 project.
. Led a project to design and develop dual 2 2 Bypass Fiber Optical
Switch for Intel Ethernet Transceiver Module, it now is the most
volume manufacturing product in Agiltron.
. Participated in a group to design and develop a prototype of MEMS
based IR camera.
. Participated in a project to design and develop a prototype of MEMS
based fiber matrix switch.
. Worked on 1064nm solid state laser welding system, including cavity
tuning, laser unit assembly and system troubleshooting.
. Led a project to design a high power fiber laser switch for ITT for
its airborne laser system, finished prototype design and assembly and
on time delivered to the customer.
Oplink Communications, Inc. San Jose, CA
1996-2003
. Led a group to establish Optical Coating Department, beginning with
coating machine spec proposal, on-site acceptance test, in-house
system set up and routine maintenance, ending up with providing all
kinds of coatings that deadly needed in production, coating machine
operation personnel training, and all related documentation.
. Led a project to successfully solve the problem of small size
(1.4 1.4mm) narrow band optical filter testing. Designed a device and
established an approach which can easily measure spectrum of small
size optical filter of either transmittance or reflection with high
accuracy, it facilitated Oplink greatly in fast filter evaluation in
incoming inspection in WDM and DWDM mass production. Now this method
is well accepted in all companies engaged in WDM and DWDM production.
. Manager of Process Development Group, in charge of the manufacture
process improvement on fiber optical products.
. Led a group on 100GHz DWDM project to develop the whole process for
mass production
. Led a project to redesign a 1 2 Optical Fiber Switch, the new one was
at that time the smallest electro-mechanical switch on the market. It
contains fewer components and is much easier to assemble which
resulted in a greatly increased yield rate, it is still considered as
the best product in the company's lineup for its high reliability and
yield rate.
. Applied several patents cooperated with others.
North-China Research Institute of Electro-Optics. Beijing, China 1990-
1996
. Working as a customer service representative for Eddy Co. for coating
machine setup and maintenance in China.
. Working on optical coating, esp. in coatings with high threshold of
laser induced damage, familiar with various kinds of coatings and
routine maintenance skill of vacuum coating system.
