Objective To utilize all of the scientific knowledge I have gathered as a
researcher, student, and instructor in the workplace. I would like to
build on this knowledge daily, gain new skills and thus become a more
proficient problem solver while also teaching others to do so.
Summary of
Qualifications and
Experience August 2008 - Present University of Arizona Tucson, Arizona
Graduate Researcher - Microbiology
As a graduate student, research plays a central part of my
academic career. Techniques accumulated as a researcher
include: PCR, Western Blotting, RNAi, measuring bioluminescence
in E. coli containing a reporter gene for copper
resistance, ribotyping and toxinotyping of Clostridium
difficile strains, and use of quantitray and MPN in
experiments as well as other applied microbiology techniques
Projects included:
"Assessment of the Potential for Cross Contamination of
Food Products by Reusable Grocery Bags" - Use of
several selective agars, quantitray system and most
probable number (MPN) for the enumeration of
coliforms, fecal coliforms, Salmonella, Shigella, and Listeria
monocytogenes in used reusable grocery bags and their ability
to survive such an environment.
"Survival of Bacterial Endospores During Household
Laundering" - Evaluation of the ability of Bacillus
altrophaeus endospores and, by association, other
endospore formers' ability to survive laundering and
the temperatures of drying in the absence and presence of chlorine
bleach.
"Survival of the Nematode Parasite Ascaris suum in
Biosolid Amended Soils" - Determination of the rate
at which the hearty parasite Ascaris suum perishes in
biosolid amended soils under different environmental
conditions

Arizona
Graduate Teaching Assistant - Bio181
This position entailed teaching two separate classes, of 35 students,
laboratory techniques and experiments central to understanding
introductory biology. Other duties included preparation of and grading
