PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

School Business Management Consultant 2007 – Present

LBM Business Services, Inc.

I have worked at various school districts as the Director of Fiscal Services reporting to the Business Manager. My responsibilities included

payroll, accounting, budgeting and grant management for Culver City Unified School District, Pasadena Unified School District, and West

Fresno Elementary School District. In addition, I was responsible for the financial management of the school including

managing the budget, financial reporting, forecasting, and accounting, manage payroll, human resources and

managing grant funds and reporting. I also served as the Assistant Facilities Program Manager in a joint venture effort working for

Norman and Norman Inc. and the Lynwood Unified School District performing duties such as: develop, monitor and adjust construction

budgets for modernization projects. In addition, I prepared financial reports for Board presentation on a monthly basis.

As a Business Consultant, I reported directly to the Executive Director of various charter schools by managing special projects within the

auspices of business management. My projects included, but not limited to, the full services requirements of the National School Lunch

Program (NSLP) from application process to meal counts, grant writing and management services, organizational procedures, preparation

of the Consolidated Application for restricted funding for Board approval and submission to California Department of Education, completion

of the Local Education Agency (LEA) School Plan by chairing the committee to gather information and formulate a plan, administration of

the insurance and benefit programs at the school site with a third party vendor, and providing leadership in the development and

implementation of business policies and procedures to improve efficiency within the charter school.

Consultant to various charter school sites reporting directly to the Information Technology Manager, my responsibilities included, but not

limited to, establishing a technology committee in preparation of writing a school technology plan, preparation and certification of request

for vendor proposal applications, handling the bid process and service provider applications, completing detailed equipment applications,

project management with service providers and the school, program integrity assurance reviews, administrative planning, weekly status

reports, and documentation of program files. Regarding this government subsidy program (eRate), one of the major responsibilities is to

organize and strategize this multi year program to meet the government criteria for technology reimbursements.

Selected as a presenter by the California Charter School Association (CCSA) to provide best practices strategies to charter school leaders,

I designed and facilitated two workshops at the CCSA’s annual conference. The first in 2008 provided strategies for eRate Administration

and in 2010 strategies for the development and implementation of effective board retreats. Each workshop provided participants with a

unique opportunity to convene for the purposes of networking, information sharing and addressing mutual challenges that are exclusive to

their leadership responsibilities.

Watts Learning Center - Business Manager 2002 – 2007

Reporting to the Executive Director, I was responsible for all Business operation related transactions including, but not limited to, payroll,

budget, financial reporting, accounting (payable and receivable), SACS account code ledger that met General Accepted Accounting

Principle (GAAP), technology, human resources administration, operations and maintenance, inventory management, attendance

accounting, child nutrition monitoring and administration, coordination of the annual independent audit, fixed asset management, eRate

administration, and risk management. Management of day-to-day fiscal operations while providing monthly financial reports to the Board

of Directors. Per legislation, I operated and monitored the Request for Proposal process to meet the competitive bid process for the NSLP

and eRate vendors for the technology program. In addition, I supervised the administrative staff of four.

My responsibility included application and document monitoring for grant submissions, maintaining a professional working relationship with

all stake holders, audit management of enrollment documentation, develop and maintain infrastructure to support effective communication,

and work with legal and the Board to identify and manage legal issues and contractual agreements..

Inglewood Unified School District 2000 – 2002

Director of Fiscal Services/Asst. Business Manager

Serving in the Superintendent’s Cabinet, I provided direction in the areas of non-instructional support services to a student population of

over 17,000 with an annual budget of over $100 million. My areas of management included all aspects of business services, accounting,

payroll, disbursements, receivables, purchasing and warehouse, technology, risk management, grant management, food services,

facilities, planning, maintenance, operations and transportation, including supervision of a direct staff of eight and indirect staff of over 100

employees. Directly responsible for ensuring that the District remained fiscally solvent, that cash was managed efficiently and that the

Superintendent and Board of Education received timely and accurate financial and operational data, in order to make informed decisions

that guaranteed the successful delivery of services.

Southern California Institute of Architecture 1996 – 2000

Business and Finance Director

Instrumental in providing fiscal facts that resolved salary settlements through contract negotiations. Established and implemented policies

and procedures. Selected, trained and evaluated staff. Assisted in problem solving, using conflict management techniques. Interacted with

all levels of the organization to ensure financial and operational goals were clearly communicated in an effort to provide leadership that

built consensus, increased morale and gained commitment from staff. Acted as the school’s liaison to external auditors in the

accomplishment of required annual fiscal audits.

Roxbury Community College 1990 – 1994

Servicing a community college of 6,600 students, my responsibilities encompassed all aspects of fiscal services: which included

administering the preparation, implementation and maintenance of the college’s $35 million annual general fund budget; payroll, position

control, employee benefits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, internal control, purchasing, financial record–keeping, Grant

management, associated student body funds, and audit responsibilities. Organized and directed operation of internal computerized

services related to fiscal accounting for all administrators and staff. Acted as the college’s liaison to external auditors in the successful
