Strath Services. Responsibilities included taking steno, typing, filing.
Assisting in weekly sales meetings, weekly operation meetings on board
our ships. Also I was involved in meeting with customers and entertaining.
Arranging large dinner banquets in different U.S. cities for our customers.
I also did sales research for project cargo for our offices in London. Made
all travel arrangements for our Owners Representatives and the Port
Captain. Overseen operations for office during the months of June, July,
and August. While working for Owners Rep. our mother office paid for
my schooling in ocean transportation at the Seaman’s Institute for a two
year period. Courses taken were: Ocean Transportation, Export
Management, Steamship Law Requirements, Hazardous Cargo, Sales,
Chartering and Brokerage Practices and Documentation. I maintained
straight A’s.
I was later promoted to Assistant Line Manager for P.T. Djakarta Lloyd
Lines. Responsibilities included quoting rates, bookings, prepared load
plan of ships and had heavy customer phone contact. I also was in
constant daily contact with the pier for cargo receipt information.
