PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Principal -- 1998 - Present

Drennen Engineering, Inc.

Mr. Drennen started Drennen Engineering, Inc. in July of 1998 to provide

engineering services to the utility and industrial boiler business. The

charter of the business is to improve unit availability to clients with

serious fly ash erosion related boiler tube failures. Services also

include methods for reducing boiler bank plugging (from fly ash carryover)

that can result in boiler tube failures and/or pressure part damage.

Solutions to these problems require flow modification that results in

significant reductions in O&M costs related to repair and downtime.

Recommended fixes are based on a unit assessment and boiler testing,

physical and computer modeling (ANSYS CFX). The market for this business

is worldwide.

Mr. Drennen also provides engineering services related to flow analysis for

such things as heat exchangers and underground utility tunnels. He

performs in-situ testing, flow visualization and computer modeling to

evaluate and provide improvements in system performance. He has also

worked with a videographer to produce commercial quality video reports.

Project Engineer - Winter 2012-13

Chem Tech, Monroe, CT.

Temporary position assisting with damage assessment in New York City from

Storm Sandy. Primarily concerned with HVAC equipment in commercial

buildings in lower Manhattan and the Bronx that were flooded during the

storm. Provides equipment assessment reports to insurer (insurance company)for them to

determine extent and cost of facility repair/replacement for qualified

damage. Interfaced with building management to gain access to affected

areas and to conduct site surveys and monitor repair/replacement

activities.

Product Engineer -- 1998 to 2003

Heat Recovery Steam Generators

ALSTOM POWER

Mr. Drennen worked for ALSTOM Power as a Product Engineer in the Heat

Recovery Steam Generator business unit. While in this group, Mr. Drennen

was responsible for selection of boiler components used to build HRSG's

that included piping, valves, pumps and instrumentation. He also prepared

customer submittals describing boiler performance and equipment selection,

layout and operation. He is familiar with piping and instrument diagrams

and code breaks (ASME/B31.1 jurisdictions). He worked closely with Design

Graphics (drafting) to insure that correct piping and fabrication documents

were produced.

Principal Engineer -- 1988 to 1998

Mechanical Systems Engineering

ABB/Combustion Engineering, Inc. / Power Plant Laboratory (Windsor/ CT)

Mr. Drennen worked with ABB business units and external customers to define

product improvement and development projects. He wrote proposals that

included cost estimates, manpower requirements and schedules. Under

limited direction, he performed a variety of complex research and

development assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of fluid

mechanics/aerodynamics plus understanding of related disciplines

(multiphase flow, heat transfer, materials) to achieve client objectives.

Assignments typically required cross discipline interaction with experts in

other areas (combustion, materials, electrical). Designed and operate test

facilities and provide instruction to engineering, technician and trade

staff during design, construction and testing of laboratory facilities. He

wrote technical reports with complete analysis of results, conclusions and

recommendations for further action.

Mr. Drennen has used computational fluid dynamic (CFD) codes (ANSYS) for

computer modeling of aerodynamic and particle behavior for equipment used

in power generation systems (both nuclear and fossil sides). Included were

non-reacting flows with heat transfer and multi-component flow simulations,

(fluidized bed boilers, pulverized coal transport, particle separation

equipment, nuclear fuel rod assemblies).

Specialty area while at ABB was related to erosion of boiler components due

to ash impact. Coordinated R&D efforts related to understanding

fundamentals of erosion process in the boiler environment and

identification and implementations of solutions. During an Electric Power

Research Institute (EPRI) funded program, he formalized the procedures for

erosion control and prevention in boiler backpasses. EPRI published these

procedures as a guideline in 1994.

Represented ABB on R&D Joint Venture project (two years) for organizations

with a stake in fluidized bed technologies, (USDOE, METC, ANL, EPRI, B&W,

FW, U of I U/C).

Developed a novel flow visualization technique using burning carbon

particles to reveal flow patterns (streamlines) that were not easily

revealed by standard techniques (streamers or smoke). This was used

extensively in modeling or boiler systems (combustion chamber) and

components (burners and cyclones).

Completed Trainer requirements from ABB Institute for Business Process

Improvement and Quality Improvement Techniques. Member of committee that

redefined metrics for R&PD effectiveness (1998).

Engineer II -- 1984 through 1988

Mechanical System Engineering

Combustion Engineering, Inc

Kreisinger Development Laboratory

During this period, Mr. Drennen had the responsibility for conducting the

laboratory Gas Side Erosion program for fundamental studies. Major

accomplishments under this program included determination of relevant

geometric factors for low erosion designs, cataloging erosiveness of a

variety of boiler system ashes, and ranking the erosion resistance or

metals and coatings used in the boiler environment.

Mr. Drennen conducted a physical test program for the Morgantown Energy

Technology Center (METC) to measure the gas and solids flow distribution in

a Bubbling Fluidized Bed Combustion test facility, including the

development of a probe for measuring particle impact momentum and velocity

at the tube surfaces within the bed. Mr. Drennen led proposal development

for this project, which was first METC award for laboratory.

Engineer I -- 1977 through 1984

Instrumentation and Controls Engineering

Combustion Engineering, Inc

Kreisinger Development Laboratory (KDL)

During this period, Mr. Drennen worked in KDL's Instrumentation and

Controls Engineering section. This work encompassed specification,

purchase and installation of instruments and controls used at many of the

laboratory's test facilities, developing P&ID and wiring diagrams and

working with trades during construction. The last two years in this group

were spent redesigning and upgrading the laboratory's gas analysis systems,

which were used extensively for combustion process evaluation. His

recommendations resulted in a complete modernization and standardization of

measurement equipment including the use of programmable controllers to

start, run and shutdown system.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND

Mr. Drennen received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science

from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1975. This provided
