Summary
Career of progressive responsibility in Mechanical Engineering built on excellent analytical skills supplemented with
organizational and communication skills. Experience includes Project Engineering, Process Engineering, Steam Systems Design
and Optimization, Process Energy and Efficiency Improvements, Combustion Engineering and Boiler Performance, Personnel
Management and other skills.
Beginning with ‘hands on’ work and proceeding into management, analytical skills were ‘honed’ in systems and piping
design; ‘troubleshooting’ and problem solving are ‘second nature’. Those learned and ‘natural’ skills along with company guidelines
are used to assess and determine the best implementation and course of action for piping design, project management, or construction
engineering. Good communication and working relationships with production and construction personnel as well as with Engineering
and Management have resulted from utilizing engineering principles and methods with perspectives from operations, maintenance, and
construction.
Capable of working independently, as a team member, or as a coordinating supervisor. Always eager to acquire new skills and
knowledge to maintain growth with emerging technology or to assist in developing new technology.
Professional Experience
VOGT POWER INTERNATIONAL, INC, Louisville, Ky 2006 – 2012
Project/Product Engineer / Aftermarket Engineering Coordinator
• Responsible for leading the Engineering effort on new and aftermarket projects to design, repair, replace, and build HRSGs.
• Maintained the engineering project schedule using Microsoft Project.
• Responsible for ‘on-time’ delivery of all project drawings and documents.
• Responsible for meeting all customer specifications and contract obligations.
• Insured ASME compliance for all components and materials.
• Responsible for engineering support for service, aftermarket, and licensee.
PRECISION BOILERS, INC., Morristown, TN 2003 - 2006
General Manager of Fired Products
• Team leader to custom design and engineer fire tube and water tube boilers to insure performance and adherence to applicable
codes (ASME IV & VIII, ANSI, ASTM, etc) and to customer specifications.
• Performed calculations to determine actual product performance, component weights and costs, etc. This saved the company
many thousands of dollars by providing accurate cost for pricing and freight.
• Redesigned products to improve performance and reliability. This saved many more thousands of dollars by reducing post
shipment warranty work and backcharges. (Reengineered items, ie fuel supply piping, for better performance and compliance
with applicable codes.)
• Directed and supervised engineers and designers to meet production requirements of schedule and production support.
STEAM & ENERGY SYSTEMS, Hillsborough, NC 2002
Self Employed (Consultant)
• Performed surveys and evaluations of industrial processes and energy systems to determine better methods resulting in energy
savings.
• Designed new and modified systems to provide those energy savings. (P&ID’s and Piping Design)
• Wrote and presented contracts to industry to completely design, implement, and supervise recommended energy savings and
system improvement projects.
AALBORG KEYSTONE INDUSTRIES, Erie, PA 2001 – 2002
Project Engineer (Contract)
• Performed as the primary customer, contractor, and engineering liaison for all technical issues.
• Responsible for checking and coordinating suppliers design and technical data to manufacture and supply HRSG’s (Heat
Recovery Steam Generators) for a combined cycle power generation facility.
ARMSTRONG SERVICE, INC., Cary, NC 2000 - 2001
Senior Energy Systems Engineer
Lead Mechanical Engineer for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office.
• Evaluated the steam and energy systems of industrial manufacturers for the purpose of discovering possible energy, process,
steam system, steam generation, compressed air systems, and HVAC systems improvements. Was 100% successful – found
substantial energy savings in every site visited.
• Client steam boilers sizes ranged from power generation systems to small firetube boilers and all sizes and types inclusively.
• *Designed energy savings projects, determined scope of work, calculated energy and dollar savings, determined systems cost
and wrote engineering portion of proposals.
• Directed construction of P&ID, piping, and construction drawings, material procurement, construction and
implementation of scope of work. Insured all designs and installations conformed to API, ANSI, and ASME.
• Responsible for and directed construction crews to implement all designs.
VALLEY PROTEINS, INC., Winchester, VA 1997 - 1999
Director of Boiler Operations / Corporate Engineer (Two year Contract)
• Responsible for the safe, efficient operation of all company boilers and support systems. Provided equipment improvements
and upgrades for all plant boiler rooms. (15 plants)
• *Designed and Installed Condensate Return System – Improved boiler efficiency 20%.
• Responsible for boiler emissions, water chemistry, and conformance to NFPA 8501 and ASME.
• Performed activities of Corporate Engineer for capital projects and needed piping and pumping system upgrades.
SHAW (ARMSTRONG WORLD) INDUSTRIES, Dalton, GA 1985 - 1997
Corporate Senior Staff Project Engineer/Manager
• Responsible for the design, budget, schedule, and implementation of projects to meet the needs and schedules of production.
o Assembled project budgets, performed required budget approval calculations, purchased major components and
completed projects on budget.
o Designed project schedules to minimize or eliminate production interference.
• Wrote specifications, bid, and purchased equipment; bid, contracted, and supervised the installation of
manufacturing equipment for carpet yarn and carpet manufacturing plants to increase production
quality and speed.
• Designed, contracted, and installed air, water, fuel (gas, light and heavy oil), and steam piping systems for plant, process,
boiler, and fuel systems.
• Responsible for insuring all work met applicable codes (ASME, API, ASTM, ANSI, State and Local).
• Replaced fuel oil storage system with new system designed to API, ANSI, ASME, State, and Federal Codes.
• Upgraded existing production machinery and processes to increase production quality and speed.
• Designed and implemented improvements to plant air conditioning systems using engineering principles and
‘troubleshooting’. (Designed and installed a complete textile plant air conditioning system, this design became the corporate
standard.)
• Responsible for the safe and efficient operation, major maintenance, upgrades, and process
improvements of all company boilers and support equipment for 34 boilers in 17 plants.
• *Found root cause for boiler failures and designed and installed modifications to original design to ‘eliminate’ boiler failures
and production losses due to boiler outages.
• Responsible for combustion of fuel and efficiency of all boilers; performed burner tune-ups.
• Rebuilt and upgraded burner control and safety systems on boilers.
• *Designed and Modified a carpet dryer; almost three times more efficient than any other carpet dryer.
