bacteria for production of novel antibiotics, enzymes and

. Isolated and screened new isolates of the genera Streptomyces,

Micromonosopa and Actinoplanes for novel restriction enzyme

activities with multiple DNA substrates. This work resulted in

production of a marketable enzyme, restriction endonuclease Sgf

I. This is now a patented restriction enzyme of Promega.

. Isolated and characterized flagellar proteins from spores of the

genera Actinoplanes.

. Produced a flagellar antibody and developed chemotaxis and

imunomagnetic bead methods for the isolation of Actinoplanes

. Isolated and screened thermophilic bacteria for discovery of

novel producers of temperature resistant DNA polymerases for use

in molecular biology applications.

. Designed methods for the isolation of microbial producers of

cellulases, lipases, keratinases and other hydrolytic enzymes.

. Increased insecticidal toxin production by optimization of

larger scale fermentation conditions for the producer,

Photorhabdus.

. Discovered novel insecticidal toxins from entomopatogenic

nematode associated bacteria.

. Performed biochemical analysis including protein

characterization, SDS PAGE analysis, Elisa, Western blot

analysis, enzyme assays, and all molecular biology techniques
