WORK EXPERIENCE
Quality Control Technician
July 2011 - present
Elyria Foundry Elyria, OH
I have several duties in my role as Quality Inspector. i work directly with
the Quality Manager, Senior Quality Engineer, and the Chief Inspector.
My duties vary from final point inspection in the foundry to spectro
chemistry and metallography in the lab.
While performing final point inspections i check for quality issues in
castings such as shrink, gas diffusions, and sand inclusions. Mostly my
inspections are performed after the inspector assigned to those specific
castings has gone over it and approved it to be shipped. This is to ensure
nothing was missed.
While in the lab i operate a spectrometer to check ductile and gray iron
samples for proper chemistry of specific elements that pertain to that
specific type of iron and casting. i maintain and calibrate that same
machine.
With other ductile iron samples i sand them with a belt sander then polish
them with an orbital sander. from there i perform microscopy. i view them
under a microscope to look at the physical properties of the iron to check
for grain structure and nodularity.
Sometimes i have to etch these samples. this allows me to view the graphite
structure and distribution. During this process i also check for pearlites
and ferrites.
Depending on chemistry and physical properties i write a quarrantine ticket
to pull a job into a hold to be reviewed by the senior quality engineer.
I operate a carbon analyzer with a known carbon standard powder against
parts of samples to compare data with the spectrometer and the data cast.
I am a member of the internal audit team. With this i perform a single
audit per week to various departments to issue corrective action responses
if required.
I break chills to measure carbides.
I operate a boroscope to look into certain channels of castings if there
are certain issues.
I cut various types of "blocks" with one of two band saws that I operate. I
cut sections of various castings in to specific sizes to look for a
particular defect. I also perform routine maintenance on the saws.
I currently operate a haas cnc lathe to machine the "blocks" I cut into
"bars" of specific specs. I set the lathe up depending on the size and type
of bar I will be machining as well as changing tooling and taking needed
axis measurements.
I operate tow motors several times a week.
I completed a hass programming course on September 26th of 2012.
