EXPERIENCE
GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT July 2011–December 2012
Manuscripts in Preparation: “A finite element-based framework for understanding the energy performance of concrete
elements incorporating phase change materials”, Energy Engineering with Dr. N. Neithalath, Dr. S. Rajan (MIP)
Research Title: Non-Linear Finite Element Modeling Of Structural Elements for Understanding Efficient Energy Usage
• Improving energy efficiency of buildings by addition of phase change materials (PCMs) into concrete to estimate and reduce
load on air-conditioning and heating systems.
• Performing non-linear finite element analysis by incorporating a phase change properties to models. 2-D and 3-D modeling
of construction elements using SolidWorks and HyperMesh.
Visual C++ program - WallDesign
Customized geometric, material and boundary condition model using Visual Studio C++ to support future optimization analysis.
• Preparation of 2-D mesh, writing Abaqus input file, launching Abaqus command window and submitting job for analysis.
• Calculation of energy (flow into and out of room, stored in PCM) and PCM efficiency for various time increments
TOOLS USED: Abaqus V. 6.10, Visual Studio C++, SolidWorks 2009-2010, HyperMesh 10.0
SENIOR ENGINEER (PLANNING/PROCUREMENT) July 2008 – July 2010
Larsen & Toubro Limited- ECC Division, Mumbai, India
Projects: Sahar Elevated Access Road Project (6 Lane, precast segmental flyover) and Mumbai Monorail Project
• Managed on-site planning activities, scheduling & costing.
• Coordinated between design division, site and client for submittal, approval of drawings and design documentation.
• Materials Management involving technical, commercial and quality control evaluation. Development and evaluation of
Vendors.
ACADEMIC PROJECTS
Finite element solution for plane stress and plane strain problem using Visual C++
• Developed a Visual C++ code using finite element principles to calculate the stresses and strains for plane stress and plane
strain problems under both mechanical and thermal loads by discretizing the problem domain using linear quadrilateral
elements
TOOLS USED: Abaqus V. 6.10, Matlab 2010, SolidWorks 2009-2010
Structural Strengthening and thermal evaluation of existing building
• To evaluate condition of an existing wooden ground floor recreation room.
• Design a studio apartment above assuming that the existing structure does not carry load from new structure.
• To reduce fluctuation in room temperature due to variation in outside temperature by incorporating phase change
materials into wood panels
TOOLS USED: Abaqus V. 6.10, SolidWorks 2009-2010
Design and analysis of cable stayed bridges
• Modeling and analysis of cable stayed bridges (with box-girder or deck slabs; harp type or fan type, with different cable
sizes) using SAP2000 under different combinations of self weight, moving live loads and wind loads.
• Structural design of cable stayed bridge with deck slabs.
TOOLS USED: SAP2000 v.11
Other Projects:
• Structural analysis and design of a pre-stressed concrete bridges
