Radiation Oncology Manager

I managed a large metropolitan radiation oncology practice with full responsibility for
operations, strategic budget and revenue cycle. I managed the department to exponential
g rowth in both revenues and volume. I managed 14 employees while specializing in
operations assessments with emphasis on revenue cycle capture. Responsible for operations
to include 2 new releases of Electronic Medical Record for oncology, maximized billing and
responsible for overseeing the revenue cycle process. I planned and implemented advanced
technology and clinical practice to meet industry standards. I worked closely with
physicians and physician practice manager to maintain fiscal practice operations.
o Assessed the billing processes in the department and determined revenues were low,
denials high and expenses were not in line with revenue. Ini tiated procedures to
ensure the financial department would meet their revenue goals. Directed staff to
obtain insurance verification, revised front end process to have co-pays collected and
i mplemented monthly denial t racking to assess where improvement in processes
could be made. Incorporated charge reconciliation standards to assure charges were
reported in a timely manner.
o Created a spreadsheet for hospital financial department to give an estimate of
charges per case mix to commercial payers and hospital revenue departments.
o Created charge master and processes with the business office to start capturing E/M
charges. Based on auditing, adjusted two charges in the technical portion of the
b illing that were not capturing. Resulted in an increase of approximately $500,000
per year.

o Helped with Charge master maintenance to incorporate new technology charges
being implemented into billing cycle appropriately.
o Ran at approximately 30% under budget with staffing costs. We were open staffing
w ith 4 physicians t reating at the facility.
o Assisted Revenue management department with Radiation Oncology contract rates
w hen insurance companies were renewing managed care contracts.
o Implemented a H igh Dose Rate program in March 2007, ensuring compliance with
T he Nuclear Regulatory Commission radioactive source guidelines.
o Purchased and implemented GE Li teSpeed Cat Scanner, electronic medical record
and verify software conversion and Rapid Arc t reatment implementation in prior 3
years.
o Handled capital budget responsibili ty for Radiation Oncology to include price and
contract negotiations. Project managed facility expansion of a dedicated HDR vault
Feb 2008.
o Cancer Services was identified in the five year strategic plan and Radiation oncology
department was identified to expand from 8,000 to 30,000 sq ft. Worked closely with
administration to provide input as to what new technologies will be included and
i nvolved in the coordination of space planning.
o Experience working with H IPAA regulations, ACR and Joint Commission. Familiar
w ith CMS regulations and guidelines.
o Established departmental protocols and revenue polices for the implementation for
