SUMMARY
My education and employment experience relate specifically to the duties of an Electrical
Engineer. I obtained a Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
from the Kenya Polytechnic Nairobi, in 1989. My studies included courses in analogue
and digital electronics, power systems, control systems and power electronics. In
addition I have over 25 years of progressive experience in Electrical Engineering, 20 of
which was gained after I graduated from Kenya Polytechnic. I worked for International
Energy Conservation Systems (IECS) based in Atlanta GA, for over 10 years as a control
technician. During my employment with IECS, I had the privilege to work in the
following buildings amongst many more:
The White House, Fort Belvoir, National Institute of Standards (NIST in Maryland),
Richard B. Russell Federal Building (Atlanta) and Warner Robins Air base in Macon
Georgia.
While working as an Electrical Supervisor for the International Livestock Research
Institute I was responsible for all electrical engineering aspect of the facility, including
design of new installations.

Description of duties
- Plan and coordinate technical design and engineering implementation of project
work.
- Provide detail documentation upon project completion.
- Interpreting the plans for the installation and securing material to complete the
contract.
- Performing all service maintenance and installation of energy management
systems.
- Trouble shooting and debugging of control systems.

As a supervisor of 4 electricians and 3 refrigeration fitters, my duties included the
following:
- Maintain, service and repair of all electrical and refrigeration items in the facility
- Design, Plan and installation of all electrical installation work.
- Control of all assets, materials and resources in the electrical and refrigeration
section.
- Requisition of all materials and spare parts required in the section.
- Overall supervision of contracted jobs to completion
- Staff evaluation and training.
- Conduct firefighting drills to all engineering staff and selected few from other
departments within the institute.
- Maintain general cleanliness and safety of the workshop.
- Receive and delegate jobs from the head of Engineering department
- Liaise with the Kenya power and lighting personnel to ensure continuous and
steady power supply to the institute.
- Formulate and maintain energy conservation measures within the institute.
- Mobilize staff in taking corrective actions in the event of emergencies.
