This position offered me the opportunity to provide individual and group psycho-therapeutic interventions. This process included intake, assessment, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning and termination. Case management, community outreach and education were other aspects of this position. Team collaboration, mentoring by the child psychiatrist and working with diverse populations were highlights of this experience.

Worked in homes and the community with children and their families experiencing severe and persistent mental illness. Here I provided individual, group and family interventions based on symptom management. I was responsible for managing their cases between the community mental health setting and other providers such as schools, doctors, foster families etc. This required working within a multidisciplinary team.

As an intern I was offered the opportunity to work closely with director of Programs for Children at Carroll County Mental Health. This experience allowed me to participate in program planning at the local, regional and state level. I provided individual and group psychotherapeutic supports for children and families in the community and schools. At this placement I also worked the outpatient clinic providing counseling to adults. I had exposure to emergency services, psychiatric supervision, agency management and a multitude of therapeutic modalities. These included client and strength based principles.

This unique company provided support services to senior citizens throughout the Seacoast Area. These included transportation, cleaning, shopping, appointment scheduling, laundry, luncheon groups, travel, entertainment etc. We provided individualized care and attention to clients and their families. This venture required management skills, organization, customer service, employee supervision, scheduling and creativity.
Employment Specialist Developmental Services of Strafford County
1995-1996
Designed and implemented work programs for clients with developmental disabilities and dual diagnoses. This required establishing community employer contacts, job acquisition, job training, providing supports and problem resolution. A great deal of “thinking outside of the box” and flexibility were required to make such positions successful and rewarding for both the client and the employer.
