Claims Experience
Catastrophe Operations
Since 1987, I have either worked in the field or managed in over fifty catastrophic operations. These have included hurricanes, hail and wind storms, tornadoes, floods, ice storms, earthquakes, and wildfires. Several major operations which I worked were: the San Francisco earthquake of 1989, the Northridge earthquake of 1995, Hurricanes Andrew, Georges, Katrina, Opal, Wilma, Ivan, Ike and numerous others. I have also assisted in other large events such as the Lake Arrowhead wildfires and the extensive ice storm which struck Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky in 2008. During many of these operations, I have handled first response damage assessment for both residential and commercial losses as it related to the determination of potential insurance claims.
While working for E. A. Renfroe & Co., I have not only handled a large amount of catastrophe claims in numerous states as part of our National Catastrophe Team but I have also managed numerous operations. As a result of my experience level, I have on many occasions been assigned large and difficult claims and this has been true in management assignments as well. As part of my management duties, I have been responsible for also training numerous new claim handlers and performing quality control reinspections in numerous operations.
As a result of my claims handling duties, I have become extremely knowledgeable in estimating all types of property damage claims while utilizing Xactimate, which has become the insurance industry’s principal estimating system. The experience gained using this system has allowed me the opportunity to effectively estimate and management property claim losses.
Regular Claims Experience
Between 1986 and 1999, I was employed by State Farm Fire and Casualty and was working out of the Florence, Alabama claims office. In that capacity, I handled a large volume of fire and casualty losses. These claims included all types of residential and commercial property claims as well as liability and medical payments claims. During that time, I handled a large number of claims involving major structural losses to homes and commercial buildings. Due to the nature of some of these losses, I worked closely with local and state fire departments and other law enforcement agencies as well as local emergency agencies in my area.
During the last four years I was employed with State Farm, I was a member of the regional REACT team. This team was responsible for being the first responders to all types of major catastrophes within the Alabama / Mississippi Region.
