QUALIFICATIONS
Industrial Designer, Machinist and Model Maker. Experienced in product design,
press brake tooling design and fabrication, machining, prototyping and project management.
Skilled in the use of milling machines, lathes, drill presses, machining centers, Master Cam X,
and EDM.
EDUCATION
1982 1985 Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design
University of Illinois At Chicago, School of Art and Design
IDSA student board member. Special work in human factors design with experience
in prototype fabrication for Fisher Price toy design grant.
1980 1982 University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Architecture
Two years study in architectural design and model making with a focus on minimum
volume habitat project, including design and fabrication of models and full scale
mock ups.
EMPLOYMENT
2001 Model Maker / Model Shop Supervisor, Invensys Controls
Research and development work to produce prototype parts for appliance controls.
The prototype parts are used for testing before production is up and running. This
includes machining, CAD/CAM work, tooling design, injection mold design and
production. Equipment used includes manual milling machines, machining centers,
wire EDM, sinker EDM, lathes, drill presses and press bake tooling. All programming
for machining centers and wire EDM done with Master Cam software, this ranged
from versions 8 through X. I have some advanced Master Cam X training in surface
geometry and surface machining. This position also includes the design and
fabrication of test fixtures for the various engineering labs in the facility; these include
electronics, gas components, water valves and refrigeration components. This
position requires the model maker to manage several projects at a time. My position
includes scheduling all work in the model shop, ordering materials, quoting
engineering work requests and finding outside sources for overflow.
1989 2001 Senior Machinist, Midwest Press Brake Dies, Inc.
Plan and coordinate the fabrication of press brake tooling for clients with a variety of
part and assembly problems. Responsibilities range from client consultation, project
management, machining of dies, tryout and inspection work. Functioned as assistant
manager and assisted in the training of apprentice machinists.
1987 1989 Designer/Model Maker, Rehkemper ID
Research and development work in toy and product design. Responsibilities included
ideation, rough sketching, mock ups, Cadkey generated production drawings and
finished prototypes. Used Cadkey to create 3 D part files of various products, then
generated orthographic drawings from database. Model Making included pattern
making, mold making and urethane casting and finishing.
1985 1987 Designer/Model Maker, Associated Design Service
Design and development work in product and architectural design.
Design and prototyping of various products with a focus in robotics for the
testing of circuit boards, aided in the design and fabrication of assembly
line robotics. Acquired experience with Cadvance 2 d software.
1979 1985 Apprentice Machinist/Draftsman, Midwest Press Brake Dies, Inc.
Worked part time while a high school and college student as a machinist
and draftsman in the press brake die industry. Acquired skills in milling,
drilling, surface grinding and planer operation.
