Assistant Construction Manager Intern at M+W Zander US Operations, Inc.
May 2008 - August 2008 (4 months)
During my internships with M+W Zander, I learned many different aspects of project management, from
planning, to developing, supervising, and inspecting the project from the beginning stages, through the
completion. The projects that I was involved with were two buildings, an office building, with laboratory
space, and a clean room. This project was for the State of New York at the University at Albany. For this
project, we had to prepare cost estimates for the project owners and deal with the bidders to ensure that the
project was completed within the allotted budget. During the course of the projects, I had to meet with the
project owners to provide technical advice regarding specifications submitted for approval. I also contact
potential bidders and mailed them packages containing drawing and specifications for them to bid on the
projects. Once a bidder was awarded the job, I received samples from them and verified that they met the
specifications set for the project. I then delivered the samples to the project owners to make sure that they
approved these samples. I interacted with management and contractor supervisors to ensure that the project
milestones were followed. As the project was coming to a close, I was responsible for creating a table of
contents for the close out documentation needed for submission to the owners. Once I had a list of what was
needed for submission, I was responsible for contacting the companies that were working on the various
aspects of the project, and acquiring the operations and maintenance manuals for the equipment that was
installed. I also contacted the subcontractors for outstanding submittals. Throughout the process, I leared how
important documentation is to any project..

This was the capstone project for our MBA program. Our team had to pick a field and company to create and
design an innovative new product for this company to manufacture and sell. Our team chose AMER Sports
in the Sporting Goods industry. To aid in finalizing our design, we had to take market surveys to find out
what users in the sporting industry wanted. After finalizing our product, we had to create manufacturing
plans and finance strategies for the new product to be profitable to the company.

Portable Commode for Paraplegic Users
August 2007 to December 2007
Members:Michael R. Stalker, MBA, Trevor Jones, Manoj Mathew, Raquel Salim, Sean Tubbs
Our capstone project for Mechanical Engineering Degree was to create a commode for paraplegic users for a
private investor. The idea of the commode was to lower so uses could slide via transfer board from a bed
onto the commode, then to raise after, for the user to slide back to the bed. We had to communicate with the
investor to create the product to her specifications and desires. The project was completely using CAD for
the investor to see what the final prototype woud look like. The pieces were then cut with a CLC milling
machine, and constructed out of wood. The prototype was painted with a glossy finish, looking similar to a
plastic or ceramic. The lift used had wireless and hand operated controls. It was powered by rechargeable
battery. A LED system was installed to indicate battery life that was left. The prototype was to go to Arizona
State University for clinical trials.
