Cynthia E Hall, BSN, RN, PLNC
Objectives:
To apply my vast knowledge and experience in general and acute medical-
surgical nursing, including pediatric, adult and/or geriatric nursing, and
to work toward the ultimate goal of embracing the Standards of Nursing Care
in a meaningful way on a day to day basis.
Summary of Qualifications:
I have had over 40 years of experience as a BSN, RN in many diverse nursing
capacities, to include multiple supervisory and Director of Nursing
positions. Having worked extensively in home care, hospitals and nursing
homes, coupled with the experience and leadership of owning and operating a
licensed home care nursing agency, I am able to offer insight into the
needs of employers, patients and nursing professionals. Also, during the
course of the last 40 years, I have worked with many products and
medications that are involved in treatment of a variety of illnesses that
are common to those needing hospitalization and drug treatment. Recent
experience in LTACs and ICU Step-down have afforded me the opportunity to
re-enter facility nursing for the last year and brush up on current trends
and procedures in care.
Being solely responsible for the development and teaching of in-service,
orientation and general training within my own nursing agency, has afforded
me a unique, broad-based understanding of the educational needs of young
nurses and CNA's and vast management experience. Additionally, as a
Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, I have a greater understanding of the
legal implications of all nursing actions, as well as inactions, as they
relate to the "standards of care" rendered for patients in the facility
health care arena. I have had Long Term Care experience in almost every
Nursing Home in Greensboro as a staff nurse, charge nurse and supervisor. I
understand the implications of individualism, and maintenance of health and
dignity of the Individual whether in a hospital, Long Term Care Facility or
in the home.
I am currently located in Katy TX and wish to become an integral part of a
firm that will be doing mass tort cases as well as personal injury and
other types of Legal Nurse Consulting cases related to medical litigation.
Experience:
Currently:
Weekend Supervisor at the Hampton at 2929 Post Oak Rd, Houston TX
Maximum Patient Census is 60 Patients/Residents and approximately 20+
employees per weekend.
monitor all Patient Care, Employee service, Doctor's Orders and ALL
complaints, Implementation of Safe Policies and Procedures and Resource
Supervisor for nursing Issues and Patient/Resident Issues.
I also make sure that In-service Education, procedure changes, and policy
updates include presentations to all Weekend personnel.
Recently: I have been working through staffing agencies for facilities for
Psychiatric Inpatient Hospital including Psychiatric Intensive Care for
Adults and Children. I have, over the last 2 years, worked extensively in
Long Term Acute Care and Med-Surgical Hospital Nursing as well as Hospice
Inpatient in the Houston Area. I am Interested in Full-time work rather
than being dependent on Agencies for work. With my experience level, I
would like to apply Legal Nurse Reviewer or as a Legal Nurse Consultant
with your facility.
Patients that I have had the privilege to take care of for the last year
have had many diagnoses: Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Morbid Obesity,
Multiple Infections and Sepsis, and patients with history of Cerebral
Vascular Accidents (Strokes), Spinal Cord Injuries and General Medical
Surgical Nursing for adult and geriatric clients.
Legal Nurse Consultant, RN Legal Nurse Consulting, Greensboro, NC and
Houston, TX June 2008 - Present
President and CEO
As above, I read over 6,000 pages in one month for one case that was
pending and not yet decided if they were going to proceed. The case was
complicated and convoluted with many files that were discoverable that
related to the case that could be damaging to the client's position. I was
engaged to do a chronology for this case which included Medical Records,
Physical Therapy Records, Surgical Records, X-rays and Diagnostic Tests and
Counseling Therapy Sessions. (All of the records were discoverable by the
Defense and there were some merit issues I brought to the attention of the
attorney.) After organizing and summarizing only all of the files that were
requested, it became apparent that the client did not have the strong case
the attorney had thought for treble damages that were being pursued. After
careful consideration by the attorneys involved, the case was sent to a
Foundation to assist the client to pay her bills and the case was no longer
being prepared for court.
My work was complete and I was thanked for my enthusiasm and hard work that
I had already completed and rendered to the attorneys.
Because I was able to discover that the client was not as mentally affected
by the actual accident as she had claimed, the attorney made a decision to
not pursue the case any further, spend more time, money and effort as the
value was not there. I actually saved the attorney money by NOT taking the
case to trial.
Prior to working for the above attorney in 2010, starting in 1999, I worked
on several cases for 2 other attorneys in Greensboro, before there was a
name for Legal Nurse Consulting. They paid me very little, as they were
trying to save the client money and not take away from the amount that they
were getting from the case for their firms.
I did find out that I really enjoyed doing the investigations as I felt
that I really made some astute observations.
Since 1999, there have been significant changes in the usage of Legal Nurse
Consultants in the legal field. I really enjoyed the arduous work and
completed my official certification in June 2008 as a Legal Nurse
Consultant.
Nursing Work Experience Over the Last Several Years:
September 2003- February 2010 MedWorkers Home Care, Inc., Greensboro,
NC
(6.5 years)
Founder, Director and President of Medworkers Home Care, Inc North
Carolina.
MedWorkers Home Care Agency specialized in CNA and ADL support for Medicaid
clients for ADL's, etc. and for Private clients for 4-24 hours continuous
care. Medworkers also had several ventilator patients that required
skilled, daily continuous vent, wound, and tube feeding care in the home.
The Agency was Incorporated in July 2008, MedWorkers Home Care, Inc.
As the Agency Director and RN Clinical Supervisor, my responsibilities
included properly staffing and assessing physical needs of each client. Due
to my extensive experience with assessment. I made decisions to have the
clients be seen by the doctor for acute issues and as care needs changed.
Case Management for each individual patient started on day-one of providing
care for each client. The needs, as perceived by the families and within
the scope of care, were identified and implemented for each client.
Communicating with doctors on the behalf of the clients and the family was
one of those duties that were performed on a as needed basis. In fact, one
family had asked me to become the Medical POA for one particular case due
to the fact that the family, for the most part was very far away and with
an assessment of the client, I could best communicate the needs of the
client to the Doctor.
As Owner, Clinical Supervisor and Agency Director, for the company, I was
directly responsible for all actions taken on the behalf of the clients as
I supervised other RN's, LPN's and CNA's, and all office staff including
the scheduler, filing clerk and secretary. In totality, there were up to 40
employees at one time seeking my guidance, my nursing expertise and proper
payroll payment for their services. I interviewed all employees, hired all
employees, and fired employees for negligence and for 'no call no show' as
per policies. Personally, I performed all Medicaid CMS Billing and Invoiced
all Private Clients..
I developed In-service and Skills Check Lists for all employees, including
keeping up with CPR and TB's as required for all health care personnel. We
remained in good standing with the State of North Carolina Health and Human
Services. As the economy declined, I closed the agency as I concentrated on
private pay patients.
Our mission concentrated in Senior Care for Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease,
Failure to Thrive, Diabetes, Congestive Heart Failure, Obesity, and
Arthritic Conditions, as well as Trache and Vent clients and children with
MRDD Problems as well as safety and nutrition.
I have done extensive home based research into the nutritional and safety
issues surrounding all clients as well as the promotion of optimal health
for all clients on an evolving basis. Charting and observation were issues
that I trained my employees to become more accurate and appropriate
To summarize, I have experience in running my own business and am a very
independent worker when the need arises. have judgment and 40 years of
nursing experience
2002 June - 2003 September United Health Care, Care Coordinator,
Greensboro, NC
I personally saved 2 clients' lives with investigation via the telephone
assessment of their present health condition. One patient, in particular.
My main concern was to make sure that the clients were able to find
providers in the area and successfully go to appointments to see
specialists as well as regular doctors. I also addressed any home needs for
equipment such as ramps, wheel chairs, wound care, physical therapy and
other services to keep the clients at home and well taken care of.
I also handled escalated issues for denied claims and facilitated
resolutions for clients that were satisfactory to all parties involved. I
spent most of my time working with Medicare and Medicaid providers, both
Durable Medical Equipment and Home Care Providers.
