FIELD AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
June 2013, Will lead and organize a 10 day expedition in the Adriatic Sea using long lines to target the Species
Prionace glauca, and set with 3 GPS tags to analyze both vertical and horizontal migration habits, distribution and
other various data.
Summer of 2012, Worked at Big Blue Diving in Bol, Croatia as a Master Scuba Diver. Guided tourist on both
recreational and certifying dives. Pointed out notable species of the Adriatic during dives, and taught importance and
biological aspects of the seen species. Taught beginning diver discovery courses.
August 2009, Assisted with a night watch for turtle nests. Spotted turtle tracks coming from the ocean and covered
their nest with a protective wire. Dug up recently-hatched nests and assisted turtles, in need of help, back to the ocean.
May 2009, Teacher Assistant for Shark and Ray Biology. Assisted with setting up labs for dissections, helped students
understand shark biology, gill netting, long-lining and other various activities.
Summer 2008, Bimini Biological Field Station, Bahamas
Worked on a number of different shark projects. Performed various studies on bait manipulation, which required
cutting bait and setting the line. Set underwater cameras to observe how the sharks would take the bait. Worked
sharks up which included taking DNA, sexing, tagging, measuring, and taking other relevant data. Helped out with a
long-line study. Set five long-lines about a mile long, with a twenty-four hour soak time. Observed which bait was
taken, shark population numbers, which ones were re-caught, etc.. Attempted to identify the mangroves as a nursery
habitat for juvenile sharks, predominantly Lemon Sharks and Nurse Sharks. Helped construct observation towers
which were used to record any sharks that entered the nursery habitat. Learned to identify sharks by reading their
color code that had been placed on it earlier in the season. Kept a record of which sharks would be seen together
repeatedly, as part of a social behavior study.
Summer 2007 Ecuador, Bilsa Biological Field Station and Tiputini Felid Station/ Tropical Plant Diversity. Identified
and collected plant specimens throughout the Amazon.
RELATED EXPERIENCE
Free diving, hydrophone, underwater camera work, Advanced Open Water SCUBA, Rescue Certified, tagging
