Accepted the opportunity to join this 260 bed community hospital following the formation of Covenant Healthcare System, Inc. (Wheaton entity) and the affiliation of St. Francis Hospital and related organizations within that System. Reported to the Chief Executive Officer of Felician Health Care - Milwaukee Region as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the five Milwaukee Region entities of Felician Health Care, Inc. including St. Francis Hospital, a 260 bed community hospital, St. Francis Corporation, with two professional office buildings, a home health agency, community education and employed physicians and related activities, Villa St. Francis, assisted-living and independent residential facility of 140 apartments, The Terrace at St. Francis, 81 bed subacute and transitional care nursing facility which began operations in September 1994 and St. Francis Foundation, the philanthropic organization for these Milwaukee entities. As a Member of the Hospital's Administrative Team, operational responsibilities included financial and strategic planning, budgeting, reimbursement and decision support, general and patient accounting, managed care contracting, admitting, medical records, materials management, distribution and central services, information technology and telecommunication services, physician contract and leasing of Medical Office Buildings, food and nutritional services and housekeeping and linen services. Specific accomplishments included a $5 million turnaround in the hospital's profitability from 1992 to 1994 using improved process for budgeting utilizing the system's strategic plan, mission and vision to prioritize needs, completion of a cash management program to improve the return on investment for the Hospital's funded depreciation, replaced the corporate pension plan managers to improve return and management efficiencies and implemented opportunities for operational and financial improvement in a number of consolidation efforts within Covenant.

ST. JOSEPH'S HOSPITAL - Milwaukee, Wisconsin 1989-1993

Controller and Chief Financial Officer

Joined this 567 bed Catholic Hospital as Controller following the consolidation of financial services among the System's three Milwaukee-area hospitals. Reporting responsibilities included Member of the Board of Directors, staff to the Board's Finance Committee and Member of the Hospital's management staff. Operational responsibilities included financial planning, budgeting, managed care contracting, patient accounting and collections, patient registration, telecommunications, management engineering and liaison to the Consolidated Financial Services. Specific accomplishments included program to reduce accounts receivable from 90 to 58 days outstanding, developed a strategic financial planning model to project hospital operations over multiple years. Provided the model for System institutions with the capabilities for System consolidation, organized a hospital plan for improved managed care contracts and lead the purchase, implementation and management education of a decision support system - Transition Systems Inc.
