EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

Michigan

native bees and pollination at the Michigan State University sponsored

Breakfast on the Farm, August 4, 2012. This event was designed to give consumers and the local community a

first-hand look at modern food production. (More than a 1,000 people attended

this event).

Wildflower

plantings for pollination, pest control, and profit. Supported by Operation

Pollinator, MSU Extension, and Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station. Presented

and arranged this extension meeting. This meeting was designed to help growers

learn to establish and maintain wildflower plantings, update on current MSU

research, and inform on cost sharing opportunities that exist to help establish

habitats for beneficial insects. The meeting was held at the Trevor Nichols

Research Center in Fennville, MI on July 2, 2012. (26 attendees).

Presented

at and helped arrange two meetings: Conserving Beneficial Insects for Pest

Suppression and Crop Pollination supported by USDA-SARE, MSU Extension, and

Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station. These two meetings were designed to help growers learn to identify

native bees and natural enemies, establish and maintain wildflower plantings,

update on current MSU-SARE research, and inform on cost sharing opportunities

that exist to help establish habitats for beneficial insects.
