PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
May 2010 to Present USDA s Foreign Agricultural Service, Mazar e Sharif, Afghanistan. Provincial
Reconstruction Team Advisor, working in partnership with agriculture faculty and students at Balkh
University and the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock to develop a sustainable future for
agriculture in Afghanistan. Coordinate activities closely with U.S., Finnish, and Swedish military units
in my area of operations.
August 2007 to May 2010 Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Water Resources. State wide
responsibilities in the review of nutrient management plans for Concentrated Animal Feeding
Operations. Worked closely with Natural Resources Conservation Service, Environmental
Protection Agency, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, agricultural
producers, and the University of Tennessee Extension Service. Watershed Coordinator for a 13
county area in West Tennessee promoting Best Management Practices to enhance productivity and
sustainability of farmland for future generations.
Nov 2000 to Present TN Army National Guard. SGT. Currently serving with the 1171st Transportation
Company, Dresden, TN. Completed a 16 month tour of duty with the Agribusiness Development Team
in the Paktya and Paktika provinces of Afghanistan in February 2010. Our mission was to help develop
and promote the revitalization of the agricultural sector in Afghanistan; lead specialist on apiculture
and agronomy projects.
November 2007 to Present Austin Peay State University, Adjunct Instructor. Currently developing new
upper division level courses for the online environment, and teaching part time in the online
environment. New courses include Honey Bee Biology and Beekeeping, and Meat Goat
Production.
March 1991 to Present Farmer. Production experience includes raising dairy heifers, alfalfa hay, corn,
honey bees, wheat, soybeans, beef cattle, sheep, landscape plants, and goats. Present operation
consists of landscape plants, honey bee colonies, and meat goats.
January 2008 to May 2008 Adjunct Instructor, Nashville State Community College, Nashville, TN. Taught
turfgrass management.
March 2007 to August 2007 Landscape crew, Milligan s Nursery and Landscaping, Trenton, Tennessee.
Created and renovated landscapes. Planted landscapes, trimmed shrubs and trees, spread mulch, and
built hardscapes to make the world a more beautiful place.

introductory computer classes and Microsoft Office classes on a part time basis to adults in the
Community Education Program.

M.S. in Biology. Focus of personal research is on ecological sustainability of honey bee colonies, both
Apis mellifera and A. cerana in Central Asia.
