This past semester I had an opportunity to intern with Khmer Health Advocates. I am a Community Case Worker. My jobs functions includes being a Case Manager. I ensure that the community member has access to available services. If need be I also accompany them to social services agencies. When client comes in I assess their needs, assists with access, find resources and assists with paper work. I also keep detail records of the services they applied to.
I also act as a Medical Interpreter and Compliance monitor. After each appointment I make sure that my clients has a follow-up appointment. And I also make sure that their medications are up to date and that their monthly refills will not be disrupted as possible. I also maintain records of their refills.
My passion is working with people, whether it be helping them apply for social services or taking them to doctor appointments. I have been providing this type of services for families and friends for a long time and I feel this is something I am passionate about.
Since I am in the UWW (University without Walls) program I am able to design my major with my advisors guidance. The focus of my concentration is Human Services Administration. I will have my B.A. degree this upcoming May of 2013. All the courses that I have taken over the years are geared toward that concentration.
I know having work experience is very important because it will give me a taste of what is to come when I graduate. This job opportunity will broaden my horizons in the field of Human Services as well as helping me to achieve my career goals.
