Summary
H. Rudy Ramsey is an unusual combination of human factors
psychologist and computer scientist. He holds a Ph.D. in
experimental psychology, and has wide experience in basic and
applied human factors research, and in human factors as applied to
computer system design.
Complementing these human factors capabilities is his extensive
experience in software design and programming. He has designed and
implemented a variety of interactive systems, translator-writing
systems, programming languages, and precompiler systems for
government and commercial customers.
For fifteen years, he has been heavily involved in research and
development of computer-based systems to support individual and
cooperative work.
He now divides his time between consulting and software product
development. He is the owner of
Rams' Island Software,
a software development and consulting firm in Parker, Colorado.

Professional ExperienceRams' Island Software (1989 - present)President and Consultant
In 1989, Dr. Ramsey founded Rams' Island Software, a small software
development firm now located in Parker, CO. In addition to
consulting in human factors and software design, RIS develops and
markets software products for IBM PCs and compatibles. RIS's main
product lines include the VENDINFO Software Product Information
System and the InContext Work Environment Manager. Dr. Ramsey
currently develops products for both Windows and DOS, using Borland
Delphi (or Visual Basic), C++, and occasional assembler.
Ramsey Consulting (1985 - 1989)President and Software Design Consultant
Dr. Ramsey acted as design consultant for computer-supported
cooperative work systems. Application areas included specialized
software development environments and general-purpose office
coordination systems. In the office systems area, Dr. Ramsey acted
both as a design consultant and as a principal product designer.
ITT Advanced Technology Center (1980 - 1985)Senior Staff Scientist and Manager of Programming Management Tools Development
In the ITT Advanced Programming Technology group, Dr. Ramsey
performed research in the areas of coordination systems, software
development environments, and project management tools. He designed
and developed numerous prototype systems in these areas. He
designed the Soma coordination system and implemented versions on
both IBM PC and UNIX/VAX. He provided human factors consultation to
several internal units of ITT. He participated in an NSF-sponsored
survey on human factors in software development.
Science Applications, Inc. (1975 - 1980)Senior Scientist
At SAI, Dr. Ramsey directed research on human factors in software
development and computer-aided problem solving. He directed a major
survey and analysis of the literature of human factors in computer
systems. He designed and implemented the Flight Test Oriented
Precompiler System and designed related interactive systems. He
directed a simulation study of the space shuttle flight design
process, consulted on the design of a computer system to assist that
process, and developed the user guide for that system. He provided
consultation on several other interactive systems for government and
private institutions, and assisted in cognitive research on human
planning behavior.
Martin Marietta Aerospace (1969 - 1975)Staff Engineer
Dr. Ramsey performed applied research on human-computer
interaction. He designed and helped implement several interactive
software systems, including the DPS and PAGE document processing
systems, Skylab Stowage Computer System, and the Interactive
Scheduling System. He designed and implemented the Programming
Language for Allocation and Network Scheduling, and was a design
consultant on several other interactive systems. He received a NASA
New Technology Award for his work on formal specification techniques
for software systems.
U.S. Navy (1967 - 1968)Aerospace Experimental Psychologist
As a flight-trained psychologist, LT Ramsey worked on aviation and
space problems involving human factors. He developed a
computer-controlled human performance test facility, and performed
vestibular perception research.
Publications
Dr. Ramsey has over 50 published research papers, technical
reports, and presentations dealing with basic and applied human
factors research, techniques for user requirements and
organizational analysis, software design, and related topics.
