Experience
Plumbing Department Manager, Balzhiser and Hubbard Engineers, Inc. Eugene, Oregon. Initially hired as an engineer-in-training, I was eventually responsible for all plumbing work contracted by the company with a few specific exceptions. It was my job to coordinate, train and supervise designers, review and create (CAD draft and / or markup) Drawings and Specifications, be fully responsible for institutional plumbing, piping and (performance) fire design from inception to project close. Coordinate with Owners, user groups, utilities, Contractors, suppliers, code officials and other members of the design team. Select and specify fixtures and materials, create and provide fixture cuts (.PDF). Perform code analysis. Present designs and concepts to Owners and design teams. Follow projects to completion with construction and contract administration. Write specifications, narratives, studies, reports, cost estimates, and analyses as appropriate. Track all relevant information and catalog for future reference. Responsible for Plumbing and Fire Protection Master Specifications and Master Details. Write design proposals for plumbing-only projects, design fee estimates for plumbing portions of projects. Limited medical and HVAC design.
Project History: I have had the privilege to work on an extremely wide variety of projects featuring a great many aspects of plumbing, piping and related design, with a special emphasis on sustainable practices and solar water heating. As a manager I worked on and oversaw a number of large projects, totaling over a billion dollars with over $100 million in plumbing and fire. (April, 2003-October, 2011)
Manufacturing Equipment Engineer and Equipment Support Supervisor for LAP Project: MicroModule Systems, Inc. Helped to bring a new product line into production. Responsible for fabrication equipment function, maintenance and documentation, managing individual and group projects (2 to 8 direct reports), designed, built and modified class 100 cleanroom manufacturing equipment as needed for this ISO 9001 manufacturer of high-density multilayer interconnect (MCM’s). Design projects included experimental variable acid- and air-flow plating tanks in HDPE. (1997 –1999)
