UW-SUPERIOR (October 2011 - present)

University Services Program Associate (LTE .5)

Grants and Research Office, Office of the Provost

I help faculty members find external dollars to fund their lifelong research goals, develop an exciting curriculum for their students, write and publish a novel, or finance a Fellowship opportunity with an outside University to further enhance their career as a professor or doctor.

For each Federal grant submission, I proofread the interim and final proposal drafts, calculate budget breakdowns with Excel formulas and review them for accuracy, and obtain required document signatures from principal investigators, Provost, Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance in the Office of the Chancellor, and the Grants and Research Administrator and file according to the system I designed and maintain.

As support staff for the Grants and Research Administrator, I maintain, reformat and update the office website on UW-Superior's main site. I research, log and report funding opportunities, set appointments coordinating multiple offices, file Travel Expense Reports with the Business Office, prepare purchase orders and requisitions, order office supplies and copier maintenance, and track archived grant information for auditing purposes.

UW-SUPERIOR (2009 - present)

University Services Program Associate (LTE .5)

Office of International Programs

I bring international students to a United States University to fulfill their educational dreams. Once they arrive, I become their U.S. family and ensure they have everything they need to be successful and happy.

As front desk receptionist, I greet each student, faculty member or visiting international family, and assist with a variety of requests. I answer a multi-lined phone and provide support for six office members, encompassing four distinct departments within my unit.

International Admissions: As part of the International student application process, I track each file for submission of admission requirements (Federal Immigration documentation, English proficiency testing, financial verification, and transcripts from other countries) and enter into our database software: PeopleSoft and Hobsons. I do data and statistical tracking through a combination of sources through Excel spreadsheets and Outlook report deciphering.

Break in employment due to a full-time return to school.

LAW FIRM HISTORY

Gerlach and Associates

With no prior legal experience, I was hired as an Office Administrator and began a successful journey.

I transcribed attorney and paralegal time and then generated monthly billing statements. I processed all incoming account payments, paid office bills, wrote payroll checks, paid quarterly and year-end taxes, and kept record of all firm transactions. My legal assistant duties involved drafting of documents, obtaining client signatures, and filing same with the appropriate department of the county courthouse in the following areas: Estate Planning, Real Estate, Divorce and Business Planning.

Orman, Nord, Spott & Hurd

Several months following a temporary assignment with this firm, I received a call at home from the Human Resource Administrator. They were in need of a legal assistant/receptionist and wanted to hire me outright.

Daily tasks: legal document drafting, letter drafting, attaining medical records and packet organization for court, maintaining attorney public service and volunteer calendar with training seminars, client file preparation and continued contact for updates and relevant medical progress.

Hanft Fride Law Firm

I went to this firm as a free-lance legal secretary. I was hired for an entire summer, covering the vacation leave for each of the attorneys' secretaries (20+).

Vacation coverage for numerous legal secretaries: dictation completion, including letter and document drafting, appointment setting with clients and Court, filing and maintenance of client files, research on various case exhibits, and obtaining medical files from many facilities across Minnesota and Wisconsin as evidence.

PERSONAL INTERESTS/HOBBIES

I love to learn. I am currently doing research on Asperger's Syndrome, comparing published research journal articles on the brain and behavior with one another.
