Research Interests
Research interests in Teacher Education focus primarily on social foundations issues
namely, gender, race, and social class. Thus far my research has been dedicated to
exploring high school masculinities within the field of gender and education. The
qualitative research methods used in previous work have drawn from men's studies,
feminist theory, and cultural studies. My practical and theoretical grounding in
Teacher Education is committed to social justice and preparing teacher candidates to
be critical, reflective practitioners.

High School Masculinity: Submerged Voices, Emerging Choices
Dissertation Director-Sandra K. Wilcox Revisions due 04/00
This study examines a theoretical and practical gap by problematizing "the boys" as
a conceptual framework and instead offers a more fluid understanding of
masculinity as a social construct. Grounded in men's studies, cultural studies, and
feminist theory, this research provides a look at four young men whose daily
interaction and conversations reveal a set of beliefs or "gender politics" which run
counter to the mainstream views of their male peers.
