ROGER C. FITZ**** NE Neawanna Drive 816-***-**** (H)Lees Summit, MO 64086 816-***-**** (C) abqncl@r.postjobfree.com SUMMARYElectronics Design Engineer with extensive experience in safety-critical and high reliability designs for rail andavionic applications. Have also successfully fielded designs in more cost sensitive markets of audio advertising anddigital signage. Proven ability in creating microprocessor, digital signal processor, data acquisition andprogrammable logic designs. I am well versed in all development phases; requirements, conceptual/detailed design, qualification, manufacture, test and field support. EXPERIENCEHONEYWELL FM&T November 2012 - presentKansas City, MOSenior Electrical EngineerTraining: Honeywell six sigma DFSS. Currently doing unclassified work while waiting on security clearance.WESTPORT RESEARCH ASSOCIATES May 2009 - November 2012Raytown, MOSenior Engineer/Production Manager As hardware design engineer, analyzed failure of digital signage player for perspective customer. Found root cause of capacitor failure in external AC/DC adapter. This work led to $500K sales project for Westport Research to provide replacement digital signage player (Linux based) and enabled Westport to create their own digital signage offering (both player and server software). As project manager/system engineer, specified motherboard, chassis, hard drive, SDRAM module and cables for digital signage player to meet unit cost target of $275. As production manager, created procedures to assemble, test & image player prior to shipment. This also included creating spread-sheet to capture component/unit serial numbers and completion of assembly/test/image steps. As project manager/system engineer, specified solid state drive replacement for obsolete IDE hard drive. Worked with mechanical engineer to design custom mounting plate so customer could retrofit existing installations. Another similar project involved working with software engineer to resolve incompatibility of IDE hard drive and DVD-ROM drives (both drives on same cable and one uses ARDY signaling). Software update allowed customers to continue using existing player if drive is replaced. Submitted design information & test samples to obtain Intertek ETL certification for Encompass MV player. This allowed our customer to continue installation of this player in locations requiring UL approval. I answered design and production questions on quarterly basis to keep certification current. I also put together all equipment, cables and test procedures required to successfully pass FCC emissions testing for this assembly and two others. As component engineer, created backed-up directory of data sheet and drawing files (PDF format) for all purchased Westport part numbers (~ 375) used to build board assemblies. This included compiling part information on RoHS and peak reflow temperature (to assure that parts support lead-free assembly process). Also researched and specified cross references (~30) to allow purchase of shorter lead time and/or less expensive parts. As production manager, directed all operations regarding part procurement, production schedules, board & system level assembly, repair & shipping (US, Canada & Mexico). This included providing work instructions for, supervision and evaluation of eight hourly employees. I made decisions for and co-approved placing orders for purchase of components totaling more than $500K per year. As purchasing manager, directed our purchasing agent to get competing quotes for components, analyzed purchasing cost history, analyzed part shortages to determine cost outlays for production builds, scheduled purchasing to support production schedules, and managed supplier relationships. ROGER C. FITZ As quality & field service engineer, I directly answered customer questions & complaints or got sufficient information before getting design engineer or sales/marketing involved. Most of this related to repair of equipment that had been in the field for many years but it also included new installations. As part of repair service, also loaded customer & site specific content via Ethernet, DVD-ROM or SD card.GE TRANSPORTATION GLOBAL SIGNALING, LLC November 1998 - April 2009(formerly Harmon Industries) Grain Valley, MOLead Engineer/Technologist As hardware design engineer, developed requirements and designed processor (MCF5216) and display boards for UltraCabII cab signaling system on Dallas Area Rapid Transit. Lead engineer & design engineer on CPU3 (MCF5234) for Incremental Train Control System (ITCS). Managed contract design engineer for core CPU design, wrote requirements, performed concept & detailed design, directed contract manufacturer on lead-free (RoHS) assembly with BGA packages and CompactFlash memory; coordinated installation of boards in locomotives on QTR railroad in China to support opening of line one year in advance of 2008 Summer Olympics. Design of DSP, data acquisition & sine wave generator circuits for Integrated Wayside Platform crossing system module with TMS320LF2812 DSP, AD7663 A/D, AD9834 DDS & EPM3064 PLD. Co-inventor on patent #7254467 Digital Train System for Automatically Detecting Trains Approaching A Crossing . Lead hardware engineer for transfer of design, manufacturing & test of Electrocode/Electrologic products (30 boards and assemblies) from Riverside, CA to Grain Valley, MO. Tasks included directing a team of 2 engineers to secure all documentation and interviewing design & test engineers. Developed and performed board & system testing for ASIC replacement of 6805E2 processor (www.innovasic.com) used on twenty board assemblies. Release in 2002 enabled continued sales of Electrocode/Electrologic boards & systems worth $30MM. Hardware engineer on SMP module for LCARS/AATC converting military spread-spectrum radio to low cost industrial unit for Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), decreasing cost per radio by $12K. Co-authored DCT-S-0155 Hardware Module Design Process and led team of hardware design & quality assurance engineers to create common global hardware design process.THALES (formerly Wilcox Electric) Kansas City, MO January 1991 - October 1998Senior EngineerHW design engineer for DGCPU, LCSU and D8PSK boards in DGLS system, lead engineer on RCSU (MLS) &RSCE (VOR/DME), design engineer for FCPU (VOR/DME) & ISG Video (5960) boards,VHDL process definition for MLS.
