Professional Experience

For a consulting company (WESTIN/Niemann Technology, Inc. - 2011 to 2012), executed multidisciplinary research on Distributed Antenna Systems and indoor coverage of public and multi-tenant buildings. Worked as a consultant for the State of California on the California Highway Patrol Enhanced Radio Systems (CHPERS). Other duties carried out under the CHPERS project include Switched Ethernet (VPN) Radio Systems, design and thermal management of outdoor Radio System Cabinets. Currently working for the Public Safety Communications Office of the State of California on the "Master Plan" for transitioning the existing Analog/Digital Microwave network to an all IP/MPLS Microwave network. Worked on various projects with regards to radio site development, RF Towers, Wireless Broadband Initiatives and Implementation, project management, Network Operations Center initiatives (planning and design), Training, Traffic Engineering, Service Delivery Platforms and IMS, Radio Access Networks, Evolved Packet Core, RF Interface Issues, RF Propagation and Planning, RF Broadband Optimization and IP-Based Core Network Dimensioning. Worked on RF and Fiber Optics Integration Projects. Currently working on LTE Research and Development projects.

For a Power Utility (Nevada Energy - 2010 to 2011), provided telecommunications systems design and project management for Fiber Optics, SONET, Carrier Grade Ethernet, Microwave, Trunked and Mobile Radio Systems utilized at Substations, Power Generating Plants and Alternative Energy Power Plants. For a Telecom Provider (Verizon - 2000 to 2008), designed and configured wide area networks utilizing Switched Ethernet and Ethernet Relay on Optical Fiber Systems; SCADA circuit design; Microwave Systems; and developed Fiber Communications projects from start to completion. Provided assistance in resolving issues with fiber optics and fast packet functions on SONET, ATM, Frame Relay, FTTP, ADSL and IP networks. Analyzed and synthesized data, voice and packet video networks, MPLS, SIP, OSPF, DWDM, Diff Serve, H.323, TCP/P, Layer 1, Layer2, Layer 3 and Router Issues. Was a subject matter expert on transport systems and also provided team direction in the selection of fiber cable types, modes, components, mux/demux, transponders, muxpond, media converters, GBIC, XFP, SFP, DWDM, CWDM, power budgets, amplification techniques. Wrote a White Paper on Ethernet over SONET issues. Also participated with Inventory Management and developed a program to reduce the level of inventory by over 100 million dollars by revising and implementing mathematical models for emergency stocking levels.

For an Integrator (Teradyne), worked in the test engineering division for VLSI Systems and guided the development team on environmental design concerns. Preformed computer interface diagnostics, troubleshooting and software verifications using C++ and Unix Scripts on VLSI test systems and participated in device verification and characterization activities.

For a Systems Integrator (Theloi Engineering Co), developed Electro-Mechanical-Computer-Controlled machines for the manufacturing industry. Chris improved the Laser Marking Machine for higher semiconductor yields and integrated a digital communications system for automatic data logging and terminal interfaces. Researched and developed computer controlled environmental test chambers and was responsible for vendor audits, approval and procurement. Provided training for staff personnel on the principals and applications of project management and represented the company at Trade Shows and Seminars including the development of presentation materials and demonstrations.

For an Aerospace Company (Kavilco), provided engineering test services on Electromagnetic Transducers for the Aerospace Applications.

For an Automotive Engineering Company (BORLA Performance), was a consultant engineer on automotive exhaust systems for the Research and Development Unit. Helped to reduce the material used by over 50%. Services included training of staff engineers and technicians.

For an Industrial Equipment Manufacturer (Paxton Products), supervised the applications engineering and design teams for air knife drying and blow-off cleaning systems utilized in the environmental, chemical processing, soil remediation, waste water, aerospace and electronic manufacturing industries. Established a lube oil analysis and monitoring department; provided expert assistance to manufacturing on high speed centrifugal compressors and vacuum systems; and performed vendor audits and materials selection for the industrial and automotive divisions. Also represented the company at Trade Shows and Seminars including the development of presentation materials and demonstrations.

For a Petroleum and Power Generation Company (Shell Petroleum Co.), supervised the land operations power generation unit and units responsible for flow stations, gas lift station water injection fields and drilling rigs. Provided guidance in centrifugal pumps, reciprocating pumps, positive displacement pumps, reciprocating compressors and gas turbine retrofit and rebuilds. Implemented a lube oil analysis lab, wrote procedures for rotating equipment used in oil fields and participated in vendor selection. Established a machinery condition monitoring program utilizing microcomputer based systems. Had extensive training in petroleum Economics and Project management for oil and gas field development in the Netherlands.
