PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE (abbreviated)

Project Manager – Consultant for Honolulu Sea Water Air Conditioning:

Construction Design Assist for the development and budgeting of the Honolulu Sea Water Air Conditioning cooling building. Coordinated design and technical requirements to achieve the greatest environmental and economic benefits from the cooling system design per building codes and anticipated EIS requirements.

Environmental Liaison / Environmental Turnaround Coordinator:

• Developed and presented basic environmental training to all refinery employees in every department with the Environmental Culture Team which helped achieve and demonstrate FHR’s commitment to environmental excellence.

• Worked as a liaison between the Environmental Department (8 Environmental Engineers) and the Operations / Reliability Departments to successfully create and implement programs assuring compliance with State and Federal Environmental Regulations.

• Created and implemented the refinery’s first Turnaround Environmental Plan. This plan was designed to minimize all potential environmental impacts from decommissioning the process units and also addressed the managing of wastes while identifying the potential recycling of materials created during the turnaround. This model of managing the Environmental impacts continues to be utilized as the basis for all environmental decommissioning plans

• Co-developer of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) Waste Permit to control and manage potential impacts to the WWTP at the refinery. The refinery had not had any environmental exceedences at the WWTP since the inception of this tool / permit during my tenure there.

Rotating Machinery Coordinator:

• Supervised 4 salaried supervisors and 34 hourly personnel (pump mechanics) who were responsible for performing preventative maintenance, repairs and rebuilds of the refinery’s rotating and mechanical equipment. Included indirect responsibility for the direction and supervision of 7 mechanical engineers.

• Focus areas for my leadership of this group were Safety Performance and Quality Repairs:

• Safety Performance: Prior to taking over this group they had experienced 36% of the refinery’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable incidents in the previous 2 years and were continuing down this path. During my tenure group we had no recordable injuries and our initiatives were recognized as a model for other groups to improve their safety performance.

• Quality Repairs: Our best indicator short term of quality repairs is our “rework data”. In August of 2007 the mechanical execution group averaged less than 50% of the rework repairs on a monthly basis compared to the 3 + years prior (when data was first recorded).

• Performed all administrative duties required regarding budgeting (3.5 million on average), goal-setting, employee development/training, payroll issues, absences, and work order processing.

Refinery Training Coordinator:

• Adapted and developed curriculum and cost effective training programs in the following craft and skill areas; scaffolding, forklift, aerial and scissors lift training, computer application training, pipefitting, instrumentation, electrical and pump mechanic trades.

• Created and delivered training in the following management / soft skill areas; Market Based Management, Supervisor Training, Train the Trainer/Facilitator, New Employee Orientation, Respectful Workplace and Interviewer Training.

Safety Culture Team Member:

• Training Team Member of the Safety Culture Team. We trained all FHR Employees plus participating contractors (over 1000 craftspeople, administrators and support staff) in the Refinery’s Safety vision and the processes surrounding the building of a “Safety Culture”. This original project has had a lasting impact of focusing on individual behaviors to facilitate a culture that values safety.

Fire Department – Volunteer Member, Lieutenant:

• Provided training for local community fire departments in the areas of flammable and combustible liquids, the use of AFFF Foam, high pressure gas fires, and extinguisher use on hydrocarbon pool fires and high pressure propane releases.

• Became a lieutenant in 2002 – taking on a leadership role.

Additional Experience

• Coordinated professional conferences, community based meetings and training sessions at national, state and local levels. Presented research findings at national, state and local conferences.

• Wrote and co-edited award winning national grants and manuscripts in addition to the follow-up reports.

• Utilized facilitation skills to provide in-service training to faculty, establish working agendas at community -wide meetings and to bring neighboring school districts together to pursue common goals.

• Trained over 200 Scuba Divers as a Padi Certified Master Scuba Diver Trainer in Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, Boat diving, Wreck Diving, Navigation, Dry Suit Diving, Deep Diving,

• Instructed college level undergraduate courses in the Psychology Field of Basic Helping Skills and Group Dynamics at the University of Minnesota - Duluth.

• Developed, implemented and received grant funding for a professional mentorship program for newly hired staff to assist in “quickening” professional development and geographic relocation at Kapaa Elementary.
