RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
! May, 2002 Present: Research Assistant,
Department of Computer Science, Cornell University
Advisor: Jayavel Shanmugasundaram
September, 2003 Present
1. Develop Quark, a unifying and extensible database system which can uniformly
query over the mix of structured, unstructured and semi-structured data. I am
mainly working on the indexing and query processing components.
2. Design and develop a topology search engine in the Biozon database. We
introduce and formalize the notion of topology in a database, and develop
efficient algorithms to evaluate topology results based on user queries.
September, 2002 May, 2003
Design and develop a family of novel inverted lists and query algorithms for
Structured Value Ranking (SVR) in update-intensive relational databases.
May, 2002 September, 2002
Design and implement XRank, an efficient search engine which produces
ranked results for keyword search queries over XML documents
! May, 2003 September, 2003: Summer Intern
IBM Almaden Research Center
Mentor: Kevin Beyer
Extend the keyword search functionalities of the DB2 database management
system.
! September, 2000 July, 2001
Networking and Distributed System Laboratory,
Computer Science Department, Peking University
Advisor: Xiaoming Li
Develop the Tianwang (http://e.pku.edu.cn/) system, an efficient web search
engine which supports both Chinese and English keyword search queries. I
mainly worked on the multicast communication component.
