Acute Care Nurse Practitioner for Cardiology at Night (6:00 PM-7:00 AM), May 2000 - present

*St. Peter's Hospital is a Magnet designated Hospital with 442+ beds: 10 CCU beds, 10 ICU beds, 10 CVICU beds, and 72 Telemetry beds, as well as regular floor beds.

*Cover the hospital at night (6:00 PM - 7:00 AM) for Cardiology. Admit cardiac patients from the Emergency Department, Doctor's office and patients transferred from other facilities. Analyze and interpret patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses and plans of care.

*Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.

*Order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests such as laboratory tests: Cardiac Labs(Troponins, Mg, CPK's), complete blood counts (CBC's) etc. and radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms( EKG's)

*Diagnose and /or treat complex, unstable, comorbid, episodic, or emergency conditions in collaboration with other health care providers as necessary.

*Diagnose and/or treat chronic healthcare problems such as hypertension, diabetes, elevated cholesterol.

*Collaborate with the patient's Cardiologist, Primary Care Doctor, and other healthcare providers as needed for continued care. Especially in any emergent situation. Provide patients with information to promote health, reduced risk factors, or prevent disease or disability.

*Attend and assist in all Code Blue and Rapid Response situations.

*Participate in continuing education activities to maintain or enhance knowledge and skills.

Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department /Nights (7:00 PM-7:00 AM), Oct 1990 - May 2000

*St. Peter's Emergency Department is a designated Heart Attack and Stroke Emergency Center that sees 54,000 patients per year.

*Assessed urgent and emergent health conditions using both physiologically and technologically derived data and triage these patients accordingly.

*Perform emergency medical procedures, such as basic cardiac life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and other condition stabilizing interventions.

*Obtain specimens or samples for laboratory work. Interpret information obtained from electrocardiograms (EKG's), Radiographs (X-rays) or lab results.

*Participated in the development of practice protocols, Education & Documentation committees, and was a member of the Special Case Management team. Read current literature, talked with colleagues, and participated in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in acute care.

*Manage patients' pain relief and sedation by providing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, monitoring patients' responses and changing care plans accordingly.
