Project Manager/Construction Manager Multiple Projects - Kuwait

I manage civil and marine projects on behalf of Kuwait Ports Authority, at Doha and

Shuwaikh Ports. These include widening and deepening the Navigational Channel for

Shuwaikh Port, new water reticulation systems at Doha Port, procurement and

installation of 6 new Post-Panamax Ship-to-Shore container cranes, development of

Shuwaikh Port, leasing of mobile container cranes, maintenance of container cranes,

rehabilitation of filter systems for bulk reclamations, rehabilitation of concrete jetties,

installation of new fenders (including new concrete), new wastewater and stormwater

reticulation for Shuwaikh Port, subdivision redevelopment etc (30+ projects in hand) I am

responsible for quality, time and cost for these projects, and manage t he Design,

Construction, and Supervision contractors. I review Contract documents, Method

Statements/Calculations, Shop Drawings, daily/weekly/monthly reports from contractors,

chair weekly progress meetings, prepare monthly reports, etc. Total awarded contract

Construction Manager New Wharf at Ruwais, United Arab Emirates: This is an

Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contract, where, as Construction Manager

I reviewed all Contractor proposals (design proposals, suppliers, materials, method

statements, planning and monitoring, health and safety). I was responsible to ensure the

project is delivered as specified, to monitor and report on progress, ensure safety and

quality standards are adhered to, to review variation claims and progress payment claims.

I have a team of civil, mechanical, electrical and marine senior engineers and in spectors

reporting to me, to whom I allocate and coordinate review and inspection tasks.

Chief Civil Engineer: Lahad Datu Expansion Project, Sabah, East Malaysia.

Toyo construction implemented all physical works relating to wharf structures, as a

contractor to Kawasaki Steel, the Project Management team.

As Chief Civil Engineer I was responsible for:

Onshore (eg casting yard, pile handling, batching plant, pre -stressing yard) and off-

shore concrete works.

Maintenance of communications with all parties (Resident Engineer, Main

Contractor (Kawasaki Steel), SubContractors, Client.

Supervision/management of subcontractors, including scheduling formal daily

meetings.

Reviewing and planning the sequence of work to ensure our goals could be met

Document systems (databases for: Drawing Register, Correspondence, Bill of

Quantities/Variation, a Bar-bending (for reinforcing steel), Daily Report)

Involvement in regular full-site Safety Meetings, including addressing workers on

specific safety issues.

Coordinated implementation of ISO-9001 systems for all aspects of the job.

Created and implemented a concrete testing database system, providing daily

I supplied design and survey data for both operational and payment requirements. I setout

all batters and interfaces for bulk earthmoving control. I measured and calculated volumes

of irregular cuts/stockpiles, planned and supervised day-to-day activities on the dam.

Senior Estimator: Developed a database bidding system.

Created a truck-haul modeling program controlled within a spreadsheet.

Analyzed company financial figures (including risk analysis).

Designed and introduced a plant reporting system, which created reports on both plant

availability and work that the plant has done.

Developed various managerial overview indicators, showing, for example, how the current

fleet is aging.

Surveyed a major haul road proposal in difficult terrain, designed the road, and costed it.

Set-out for construction an earth dam with internal material boundaries.

Worked in Hong Kong, closing major bids for the Tai Ho and Yam O sections of the North

I created a bid database for a major bid (Yonki Dam). I worked on analysis of hydro

potential within New Zealand, analysing, reviewing and summarizing many reports

commissioned by various organisations.

Analyzed creep deformation of large concrete beams during const ruction for the Auckland

Children's Hospital.

I investigated thermal effects in mass concrete placement during a bid for the Maui -B oil

platform. Developed a performance monitoring system, and implemented this at both

Motunui Gas-to-Gasoline and at Kaitaia Triboard Mill. I developed a financial model for

fast-track building developments.

Jan 86- Jan 89 : Project Manager/Engineer

Planner and Expediter / Deputy Project Manager: K-Mart/Foodtown complex in Henderson,

Auckland. Management of sub-contractors, and management of the project team.

Contract Manager on the Cable Price Steel redevelopment in Plunket Ave, Manukau.

Project Manager for the Manukau Greyhound Racing Stadium.

NEW ZEALAND RAILWAYS CORPORATION: March '82 - June '84

Senior Engineer. Management of design teams. Responsible for maintenance of

permanent way and structures between Hutt Valley and Waipukurau, and the Manawatu

Gorge. Supervised replacement of bearing plates to the Mangatira Viaduct. Managed span

replacements and underpinning of major bridges. Designed and supervised construction of

numerous small structures. Managed an industrial conflict to a successful resolution.

Assessed catchments for flood potential as part of my design of culverts and bridges.

CANTERBURY UNIVERSITY: February '81 - March '82

Completed a Masters Degree in Engineering (Civil). Studied prestressed/post -tensioned

concrete design, bridge design, advanced structural steel design, and shear -wall high-rise

building design.

MORRISON COOPER AND PARTNERS: June '79 - February '81

Graduate Engineer. Analyzed truss viaducts, and designed various industrial structures

(portal framed buildings, elevated corridor on cantilever poles, etc.)

MARLBOROUGH REGIONAL CATCHMENT AND WATER BOARD:

January '79 - June '79

Graduate Engineer. Surveyed a proposed floodway route and designed various floodways

and costed these. Aided in earthwork setout, culvert construction and hydrographic

analysis. Designed rock protection sizing for scour protection. Estimated peak flood

discharges from catchment characteristics and historical records.

MWD (WATER & SOILS) November '78 - January '79

Graduate Engineer Analyzed the power curve for HighBank Power Station from historical

daily records. Designed freeboard requirements for canal bridges at points of constricted

flow. This involved calculating backwater curves. Determined an equitable and practical

scheduling system for water allocation to farmers sharing an irrigation system.
