Theme: Scouting Fun in '91 Helped set-up program competition stations. Direct people who were lost.

Purchased and prepared food for cracker-barrel.

1994, Spring Camporee, Chaparral District, South Plains Council

Theme: Frontier Days Program planning committee, set-up of program areas including an adult competition

event.

1996-2003, Operation Poverty Peak, Rivers District, New Brunswick Council, Scouts Canada

Annual all-night hike with program/challenge stations along the entire 4 mile route. My brother and I put on

The Web, a low-level COPE element, every year.

1998, Spring Camporee, Kennebec Valley District, Pine Tre e Council

Theme: Anything Can Happen. Program planning committee, including set -up of program areas, including an

adult event. Designed instruction/scoring sheets for all events. Overseeing/instructing volunteers. Collecting

score sheets and tallying the winners. Procured trophy materials for all events.

1999, First Maritime Jamboree, Kouchibouguac National Park, New Brunswick Canada

Theme: To the Future and Back. A regional Scouts Canada Jamboree with about 1200 scouts and leaders

attending. Invited to join the program staff. Served as one of only two Americans on the program staff.

Theme: All Night Hike. Based on Operation Poverty Peak, each troop was asked to host a station. My brot her

and I put on The Web (see Operation Poverty Peak above).

OTHER SCOUTING RELATED

Designed Kennebec Valley District s current Mascot/Logo that was unveiled in 2010.

Dubbed KeVy (K-V) the raccoon, it is based on the ME Dept. of Conservation TidyCoon

character of the old Keep Maine Scenic campaign of the 60 s through early 80 s. Design

received permission/blessing from DOC and has been well received by volunteers within

the district.

HOBBIES AS A RESULT OF SCOUTING

Scout patch collecting

Over 2000 patches (and growing) on six blankets from countries on five continents, including scouting badges

from Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Malaysia, Finland, Switzerland, China (Hong Kong), a nd

New Zealand. The blankets have been displayed at scouting events throughout Northern New England, West

Texas, northeastern New Mexico and New Brunswick, Canada.

Hiking

Have hiked many mountains in Maine and New Hampshire, including both Mt. Katahdin an d Mt. Washington.

I have climbed eight of Maine's ten peaks above 4,000 ft. I have also hiked in Virginia, Utah, and New Mexico.

Backpacking

One week on Maine portion of Appalachian Trail. Weekend trips in White Mountain National Forest, the

Cutler Coast Preserve in DownEast Maine (one of my favorite treks), and the McKittrick Canyon portion of

Guadalupe National Park, southwestern Texas.

Camping

Outside of scouting, have camped in several places in Maine from Down East to the western mountains to

Aroostook County. In graduate school, toured National Parks and National Monuments in the Four Corners

Region, camping all but one night over an eight day period.
