Professional Summary

The professional summary is a quick summation of your knowledge, skills, abilities, (KSAs) and

desired role. Start marketing right away; go back to the job description and your brainstorming

notes and start making those connections! If the position requi res a bilingual ability and you

have it, note it! If you re submitting a general resume, think about the KSAs generally needed

in your profession and highlight them.

In the example below, the candidate has both operations and sales experience but wishe s to

obtain an operational role, so they state exactly that.

***TIP*** Keep this section to a short paragraph; no more than five sentences.

Areas of Expertise

This section showcases your knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) for an employer.

Start by grouping your job types if possible; i.e. sales vs. operations or HR vs. Accounting. You

may even want to create subcategories as in the example below with export vs. import duties.

Under each grouping, list your experiences, skills and abilit ies, using bullet points; just as you

would with a chronological resume, start with the most important KSA s to the prospective

employer, eliminating or moving down lower on the list those that are less critical to the role

you want.
