EDUCATION
Shandong Agricultural University, China Ph.D. (Horticulture) 1999
Shandong Agricultural University, China M.S. (Horticulture) 1994
Gansu Agricultural University, China B.S. (Horticulture) 1990
RESEARCH INTEREST
My research interest is on somatic embryo induction and genetic transformation of crops. Although currently work on cotton, I have additional experience in transformation of apple, orchid, petunia, begonia, cabbage and chive. I am the first reporter of somatic embryogenesis in apple and begonia. Histological study proved single cell origin of apple somatic embryogenesis. In the area of transformation, both Agrobacterium-mediated (mostly apple, orchid, petunia, begonia, cabbage and chive) and particle bombardment (mostly orchid and cotton) methods were used for transformation. Efforts on improve transformation efficiencies are continuing by optimization of tissue culture regeneration condition and use of GFP visual selection. Valuable information was gaining on single cell transformation and anti-biotic selection free transformation.
