INTRODUCTORY SECTION:
Fields of expertise include multi-processing/tasking operating systems, protocols both internal to the computer system level and network level (LAN and WAN), and specialized computer interfaces. His passion is computer internals and network trouble shooting. He is well versed in the C programming language and various assembly languages. He has worked extensively with a wide variety of UNIX and LINUX systems. Enjoys working in an environment where he works as both a mentor and problem solver. He enjoys working with customers and the last ten years of his career have been fulfilling this function. After Federal Government retirement, he worked for both Hewlett Packard (HP) and Northrop Grumman (NG) for 10 years. At Hewlett Packard and Northrop Grumman he supported System Administrators with Linux/UNIX internals evaluation (crash dumps), resolving UNIX/LINX performance problems and recommending changes, setting up remote and local backup procedures, installing and configuring UNIX/LINUX systems, configuring and troubleshooting both software and hardware RAIDS (SANS), configuring networks, and troubleshooting network (LAN and WAN) problems.
Working for HP and NG, he aided LINUX and UNIX application and system developers troubleshoot and suggest changes to applications software in C language and various scripting languages (bash, she, tcsh, ksh, and others). He is fluent in various debugging tools like adb, kdump, ladebug and others. He created scripts (sh, bash) to monitor LINUX and UNIX systems for performance issues and troubleshooting. He has in depth knowledge in using sar, vmstat, ps, top, iostat, and other monitoring utilities to evaluate system performance and make recommendations to developers and system administrators. He has served on teams as the systems representative in design and implementation of systems fielded in house and at foreign remote sites. He is adept at troubleshooting LAN and WAN issues using tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, etherfind, netstat, nfsstat, ifconfig and others. He has intimate knowledge of the protocol stack to include tcp, ip, ftp, udp, nfs, dns, icmp, smtp, snmp and others. Wrote C programs and shell scripts (bash, sh, tcsh, ksh) for unique utilities to support developers and collect performance statistics to resolve system problems.
At the National Security Agency from 1978 to 1987 he served as UNIX O/S system representative on the development for systems fielded both in house and at remote foreign sites. In this capacity he was a part of the development teams overseeing software development in the UNIX environment, and developing C language special interface drivers, protocol handlers as required and other unique system level capabilities. In just about all cases he was one of the leads in installing the system at the production site serving as UNIX O/S troubleshooter, test verifier and correcting system software discrepancies.
