Experienced Editor/Reporter
-Worked for 36 years as a reporter and editor in North Florida and North Central Florida on two weekly newspapers and two daily newspapers. My writing ability is on par with top working journalists in Florida.
-Edited stories and shaped the writing and reporting skills of inexperienced journalists at the Chiefland Citizen.
-Covered Florida elected officials and the agencies and departments they represented at the city, county, state and federal level. This experience provided me with a broad background on state and local issues. One of my beats at the Citrus County Chronicle was covering Florida Power and later Progress Energy Florida following a merger.
-The beats I covered on weekly newspapers included city and county governments, crime, the courts, sports and schools. I also handled photography. The beats covered at the Citrus Country Chronicle included county government, Progress Energy, the environment, crime and the courts.
Special Award
I received the Kentucky Colonel designation from a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner, also a Kentucky Colonel, for my coverage of community news in Levy County and particularly in the greater Chiefland area.
Equipment
I own a Pontiac Sunfire car, a Toshiba laptop with Internet (air card) access, an HP computer printer, and a Canon Rebel EOS XT camera with a telephoto lens and a variable lens with an 18mm (wide angle) to 55 mm range. I enjoy photography. Photography was a big part of my job on both weekly newspapers. Staff photographers handled the photography on both dailies.
