Position: Staff Nurse: Majority of my employment as a staff nurse nurse administering medications, administration of treatments to the patients such as wound care txs, applying ointments, gels as ordered by the Physicians. Monitoring vital signs and reporting any changes of pt status to the Physicians as needed. IV insertions along with monitoring IV site and changing site as needed, including central line maintenance. Administration of tube feedings as ordered. Admissions/Discharges of patients. Obtaining orders from physicians if pt status changed. Chart documentation as ordered.
Worked as Charge Nurse as needed. Majority of days, acted as a float nurse going from
one unit to another depending on staff census. Also, was told that I would be learning how to become MDS nurse and charting, utilization review charting along with all forms required to meet Long term care regulations. Unfortunately, I did none of this.
July 3,1989 to June 15, 2011: Hamot Medical Center
Hamot gave me 23 wonderful years working in many areas of the hospital which include:Orthtopoedic/Neuro/Trauma nursing when I first started to IV nursing for 20 yrs in the ICU settings for a short time., home health nursing for 8 yrs including home health coordinator and case management. Worked as a staff nurse on the Oncology/ Renal floor for approx total of 5 years. My last six years I worked as Hamot Infusion Center which
cared for ambulatory patients inserting peripheral IV lines along with central line care and maintenance to the central lines. Administration of medications as ordered by their Physicians. We did a lot of blood transfusions, medications for MS patients, medications for the GastroEnteroloy Physicians. Along with all of that, there was always chart documentation via computer, admissions and discharges, medication teaching.
I left so I could continue my career and training in chronic care facility as stated above.
While working at Hamot, I also worked many per-diem positions which included chronic care facilities in 2000. Private duty dursing in 1999. Millcreek Community Hospital in 1999 but that didnt work out due to taking care of my father and then Millcreek Manor but couldnt work the shifts they wanted me to. Clinical Instructor at Tri-State Business Institue as needed.
