Director of Risk Management

Reporting to the CEO of a major franchisor in the temporary staffing industry. Company-wide responsibility for all risk related activity and assessment in addition to compliance and risk financing. Currently involved in constructing a Cayman Island-based captive, initially for Workers Compensation risk, to be expanded to other risks. Serves as claims authority for all lines, including conducting quarterly claim reviews, and granting settlement authority when appropriate.

County of Niagara (2002-2004) (1991-1996)

Director of Risk Management

Responsible for all risk management related planning, development and administration for County and related municipalities in addition to managing numerous risk pools and employee benefits (health care). Recruited new members to the self-insured pool through both sales efforts, and proven savings results. Total staff under this division that reported to me was 36, not including another 25 of indirect reports responsible to me.

Responsible for all aspects of risk management for a multi-state nursing home operation in nine (9) states.

Saved over three million dollars in direct premiums through initial review of the existing program as well as consolidating coverage lines and initiating a variety of recovery efforts (insurance expenses). Additional duties included family asset risk management and fleet management.

Managed a staff of 45-55 direct reports for a food distributor with operations in seven (7) states, six (6) distribution centers serving over 1,200 retail food stores and 4,000 institutions (schools, restaurants, etc Responsibilities included managing an in-house agency generating over $10M in revenue per year, a risk retention group, a large group of claims examiners handling all P & C lines of coverage, as well as responsibility for a fleet of over 600 long-haul and local delivery 18 wheelers throughout the U.S. (The company was acquired by Fleming, Inc.)
