Voyages Hotel & Resorts – Sydney

Web Development Manager

Background:

Voyages is a travel company which owns and operates 20 hotels & resorts spread across Central Australia, the Great Barrier Reef & Western Australia.

I am responsible for managing all aspects of Voyages external & internal web-based applications, including development. My role also involves integration work with a third party reservation system used by all properties.

Environment:

Web Solutions Architect

Background:

Morningstar is an independent provider of managed investment information in Australia. They publish financial information and tools through software, print services and the internet.

I tech-lead the projects involved with the development, enhancement and support of these web-based applications.

In addition, I am the main technical contact for all third party clients who purchase the reports and display them on their own sites. I help Morningstar’s clients interface with its system, and implement security measures to promote authentication and prevent unauthorised access.

Veo – San Jose, USA

Technical Lead

Background

Veo developed, manufactured and distributed network, pda, digital and web cameras. Reporting to the IT director, my main task was to revamp, and build in e-commerce functionality, enabling Veo to conduct direct sales over the internet. As a result, Veo gained a greater online presence and averaged about US$50k a month in online sales.

Responsibilities:Gathering and analysing business requirements from Sales & Marketing.Recoded the entire site from scratch, utilising ASP, XML, SQL Server 2000, running on Win2k Server.Hand-coded HTML, Javascript and CSS of all web pages, ensuring they were search engine optimised, cross-browser friendly and W3C standards compliant.Adding e-commerce capabilities, including shopping carts, customer personalisation, secure credit card transaction processing with Verisign, customer order status checking and live UPS shipment tracking.Site promotion through email marketing campaigns and attracting search engine traffic.Set-up and analysis of WebTrends web site reportsInterfacing with existing accounting system, MAS 200, using ADO.NET. Led a team of 5 members from the customer service, accounting, logistics, IT and graphic design groups, setting up order fulfillment, shipping, returns and refund processes.

07/02 – 07/03:

First Internet Alliance – San Jose, USA

Background:

My role at FIA focused mainly on providing web-related consultancy services to its external clients, including development, maintenance and support of web sites.

Environment:

.NET, ASP, SQL Server 2000, IIS 5.0, XML, HTML, DHTML, Javascript, CSS & PHP.

Responsibilities:Client pre-sales meetings and gathering requirements.Documenting proposed technical solution/specifications.Database design and coding of web applications.Testing, implementation and support.

Projects:Chrontel, leading OEM PC-TV encoder chip manufacturer.Developed a secured intranet that allowed administrators to manage content, company documents and staff details. Also developed an IT support ticketing system. Different employees had different access to various parts of the intranet.Intranet was developed with ASP, XML, SQL Server and several COM objects.Converted several Access reports which utilized data from a SQL Server database into web-based reports, using ASP.NET and C#.

Wearnes Technology, large multinational corporation.Developed its new corporate web site .Front-end was hand-coded in HTML, Javascript and CSS while back-end was developed with PHP, utilizing an XML data-store.

08/00 - 11/01:

Powerserve, Sydney

Web Development Consultant

Background:

As a member of the Professional Services team, I was involved in all areas of consulting. My major clients included Optus, Compaq, Total Super and Channel Seven.

Environment:

ASP, SQL Server 2000, IIS 5.0, J2EE, Vignette, HTML, DHTML, Javascript & CSS.

Responsibilities:Pre-sales meetings and presentations.Gathering and analysing client requirements.Writing and documenting technical specifications, test cases and user manuals.Set-up of web site structure and database design.Development, testing and subsequent implementation of web applications / sites.Coaching and training of fellow team members.

Projects:

Launched new version of with updated graphic design.A new content management system was developed based on ASP, COM, XML and SQL Server that was later reused in many of the company’s other projects.Database and stored procedures as well as ASP VBScript code was tuned for performance.

Original code was developed in the UK but I localised content for Australia, implemented all the sites and made major ASP/SQL Server modifications for performance purposes.After initial launch in Australia, I was working with their development teams in both the UK and US, helping them code specific functionality into their global a-Services sites.

Developed a content management system that allowed the client to manage its own content, which included securing content that were only accessible via paid subscriptions.Content included video clips, audio clips, pdf files and HTML content.Site was developed in both ASP and SQL Server.

01/98 - 08/00:

Westpac Banking Corporation, Sydney

Web Developer (Internet Services, 01/00 – 08/00)

Background:

I transferred to the Internet Services department after working in Cards Delivery Systems for 2 years. I joined the team responsible for developing enhancements and supporting the Westpac Home Loans section of the bank's corporate web site, which was initially developed by EDS

(www.westpac.com.au/internet/publish.nsf/Content/PBHL+Home+Loan+Centre).

Java, ColdFusion, NetDynamics, IIS 4.0, DHTML, Javascript & CSS.

Responsibilities:Documenting technical specifications from business requirements, following Westpac’s IT guidelines.Development of major enhancements, in Java, to the web application which was running on a NetDynamics Application Server. Enhancements included coding business rules, performance and security turning.Systems analysis and design was based on Westpac’s own methodology called SELC.Front-end changes which were in HTML and Javascript.24-by-7 technical support.

Analyst / Programmer (Card Delivery Systems, 01/98 – 07/00)

Background:

I joined WBC straight after graduating from university. After completing the initial graduate program, I was placed in the ATM Development/Support team of the Cards Delivery Systems department.

I worked on the different systems that the whole ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) ran on, including those that handled, authorised and routed transactions, to other systems that monitored the status of each ATM on the network.

Environment:

Tandem, Base24, Gasper.

Responsibilities:Development, support and maintenance of mission critical 24-by-7 BASE24-ATM and CSP applications running on Tandem hardware. Coding was done in TAL and SCOBOL while ENFORM was used to query the database.Support and maintenance of Gasper ATM monitoring system running on IBM Infinity servers powered by NT 4.0 servers.Impact analysis for production problems including problem analysis / definition, options for fixes, sizing and recommended solution, following Westpac’s software methodology.Design, specification, coding, testing and subsequent implementation of any agreed fix or enhancement.
